Romney plans Iowa visit

Published Tuesday September 7, 2010

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will return to Iowa next month to campaign for Republican gubernatorial candidate Terry Branstad.

Branstad spokesman Tim Albrecht says the 2008 Republican presidential candidate will visit Iowa on Oct. 26.

It's Romney's second visit to the state since his disappointing showing in the state's 2008 caucuses. Romney finished a distant second to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee despite campaigning heavily in Iowa.

Romney is frequently mentioned as a potential presidential candidate in 2012. His trip to the state will follow planned September stops in Iowa by two others mentioned as possible presidential candidates — former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

3. Time to festoon the pig stalls, as it were, to gussy up the
joint for Willard and his contingent of snake-oilers and nation-splitters.

Will he arrive with the dog inside the vehicle or strapped up top?

Will he be more robotic than ever, or about the same robotic as ever?

Will reporters ask him which Willard he is -- the pseudo-liberal Massachusetts Willard or the "I'm Mormon, but I love Jesus a lot" Willard?

4. He's coming on my birthday?
Boy that stinks. I hope he's far away from eastern Iowa. And if so, I extend my sympathies to my fellow progressives in western Iowa.

5. Is he gonna drive his pickup truck to Iowa?
He started driving one in Massachusetts so he can be a cool guy like Scott "Pink leather hot pants" Brown.

6. I thought he'd have enough brains to skip Iowa
The last time, he got trounced by a simple-minded preacher that pretty much nobody had ever heard of. This time, Caribou Barbie's going to shoot him, stuff him, and mount him over her fireplace. Flyover country fundies just don't have a lot of use for Mormons.
