The Proper Response to the Koran Burning |
|
would be for the religious community in Gainesville, FL and all over the country, for that matter, to hold an interfaith service where members of different denominations read passages from the Koran to counteract the absurdity of the book burning crazies.
People could demonstrate that while the First Amendment right of all citizens to put their full hatred and insanity on display, people of faith can use this to display our commitment to religious tolerance.
As Quakers say: Let Our LIves Speak.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=9091167&mesg_id=9092027A group of "Readers for Tolerance" would not only demonstrate support for religious tolerance, but would also garner enough media attention to foil the attention-whoring attempt by the church. And readers don't have to be "people of faith". If I lived there, I'd do it--not because I "believe" in any kind of God, but because I believe in equality and tolerance.

3. Oh no, it wasn't a thread. Just a comment on someone else's. |

I'm glad you decided to make an OP about it. I think it's an important idea.
