While the Repubs were politickin', the President was presidencing...
For almost 2 years, the Repubs have done nothing but politick. They completely ignored the mess in our economy, the wars, unemployment, job creation, everything. They were too busy doing what they do best - tear down the President and their political opposition. The worst of all, most of the problems were of their creation.

As the stock market was tumbling into the ocean, the President was doing everything he could do to save Wall Street and the capitalist system. In hindsight, perhaps he should have let them go under?

But he did not want to see average people suffer. He did not want them to lose their life savings in their 401K's. So he made a deal with the Big Banks, who promised to save all the bad mortgages. They changed their minds once they got the money and the Repubs stood on the sideline and jeered the President. Now their Party is getting most of the bribes from Wall Street.

When the President decided to spend money on a stimulus to save millions of jobs, the Republicans criticized. They mocked him for saying unemployment would not go over 8%. As the country sank deeper and deeper into the Great Recession, the Republicans continued to vote NO on everything. Their aim was not to save the economy or the country. Their aim was to destroy the President.

Looking back, perhaps the President should not have even tried to do anything about healthcare reform, even though both Parties recognized that healthcare costs were acting as an anchor on the families of average Americans. The President attacked the problem, even though most folks have seen little change in their coverage, except higher prices. But he tried. Without any help from the Republicans. They were too busy politickin'...

We can criticize the President but we should not overlook the disdain of the Republicans for the people of this country as we struggled to keep from drowning in this Great Recession. They worked hard to tear down this country and they have worked just as hard to keep it down...Let us give credit where credit is due but let us lay the blame at the feet of those that would play politics in such dire times...

4. Right --
President should make the point that the unemployment rate WOULD have stayed below 8% IF THE REPUBLICANS HAD COOPERATED with his agenda. He expected they would work with him on the economy, but their refusal to, got us where we are today.

6. I said that ...
exact thing to a rightwing Teapartying family friend and added "you on the right keep bleating about businesses hoarding money and not creating jobs because of 'uncertainty.' You may be right, but the 'uncertainty' is not with President Obama's economic agenda ... It rests in businesses' inability to predict whether the Democrats will be strong enough to resist republican obstruction. If you guys work with, or just stop working against, the President's policies, guess what ... there will be 'certainty' ... businesses will be able to plan for the future as President Obama has it laid out."

His response: {flipping to page 3 of the republican/teabag cheatsheet} "We can't afford the deficits that his policies will create."

My Response to his response: "What do deficits have to do with business uncertainty? Businesses can plan for the deficits; they can't plan for how effective republican obstruction will be. Things that are normally no-brainers in down economies, like U/C extensions, increased government spending and, as of late, even tax credits for business, are no longer certain."

His response: {Long pause as he flipped to page 4 of the playbook} "But what about this cap and tax thing?"

My Response: "So how is your kid doing in school? He's a Junior, right? My daughter said she sees him going to his Algebra class ... it's right next to her AP Physics class."

5. The Repubs have bitten the apple...
of big taxcuts for the wealthy. And that is the only strategy they will have for many years to come. They cannot be permitted to paint the taxcuts as anything other than big deficit creators and wealth transfers. Look at the deficits!

8. Yep, the president didn't do a single political deal to get
healthcare passed. The insurance companies and big pharma will testify to that one, brother!

10. Nobody suggests you cannot criticize the President...
Only that we should not forget what the Republicans have done during the last 22 months.

11. Yes. Deals were cut ...
That's how politics is played. And guess what ... the healthcare bill passed. We now have a healthcare floor upon which to build.

But having stated the obvious ...

You do realize the OP is talking about NOW and how PRESIDENT OBAMA is dealing with THIS environment. Right?

12. So you think he should have let the entire economic system go to hell.
Then what?

13. Do you think it would have "gone to hell"?
If so, I guess President Obama deserves much more credit than anyone has given him thus far? Must we wait on history to show that he saved the capitalist system, much like Roosevelt did in the 1930's?

14. Wasn't that your assumption? Your post was sort of clever.
Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 04:18 PM by Radical Activist
You praised Obama and then pushed the same anti-Democratic narratives you always push in your posts.
Why not answer the question I asked. What do YOU think we should do after the economy collapses, as you argued it should have been allowed to do. If you want to argue for socialism then stop pretending and just do it. I've made socialist arguments before and it never got me kicked off DU.

with an unarmed man. You are obviously only looking for an argument. Not very admiring.

16. I thought you might back off when asked what you stand for.
I'm trying to figure it out since I see you post anti-Democratic narratives in nearly every post. I'd like to know where you're coming from. You write about Obama saving capitalism in a way that implies its a bad thing. Is that what you think? There's nothing wrong with thinking that but I would like to know where you stand.
