5. with the 1st Amendment.
If this is the Islamic community center in NYC, the case for the project is no better than the case against it. While the promoters have a 1st Amend. right to build it, those opposed have the same 1st Amend. right to oppose it. Both points of view are based on groundless theological claims. And yet both points of view are protected expresssion under the Constitution.

6. since the US has invaded two countries and killed countless people
using 9/11 as a justification, I would venture that the folks upset with the cultural center could benefit from contemplating what it has been like for the tens of thousands of Iraqis with dead and maimed family members.

7. Build it!
If this ground is so very "sacred", nothing should be allowed there -- no businesses of any kind, no strip clubs or Starbucks, no houses of worship of any kind, no offices, no residences, etc. And that 'sacred ground' should be equidistant in every direction from ground zero - in other words two blocks or four blocks or whatever in a gigantic square, with the site of the new world trade center smack in the middle. What would be more appropriate than a wasteland, nicely landscaped of course, with an icon of American capitalism at its center? :banghead:

I also believe that proceeding with the Park51 project sends a strong message to the world that Americans include a variety of traditions, beliefs and opinions.

57. How about Tennessee? Would that be far enough away to satisfy the bigots?
Apparently No, Still Not Far Enough Away

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Federal investigators said Friday that a suspicious fire that damaged construction equipment at the site of a future mosque in Tennessee was arson and offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

And from the fingertips of the bigots themselves:

Mosque Burned in Tennessee

Of course, the Left is saying that it was opposition to the Ground Zero Mosque that caused the arsonists to start the fire. On the contrary, the Tennessee burning was undoubtedly provoked by the decision to build the Ground Zero mosque in the first place. If domestic Muslims had any sensitivity for the feelings of other Americans, perhaps they wouldn't be facing growing opposition from a motivated citizenry.

So who's responsible for the Tennessee arson? Muslims and the left wing liberals who support them.

You can't ever satisfy bigots. Which is why their 'feelings' should not be a factor in decisions like this. Appeasing them emboldens them. So, it's best to abide by the Constitution and leave it at that. Let them wail and tear their hair out. Because they will do that anyhow and they will always find another target ..

Replace the Catholic churches with sixty story statues of Jimmy Swaggart fucking hookers, with tears in his eyes while exclaiming "Forgive me, My Lord!"

Give every religion the opportunity to shove their message down the throats of New Yorkers and Americans at-large, equally.

Above all: Respect the First Amendment to the Constitution of The United States of America.

61. What really gets me
Edited on Thu Sep-09-10 10:54 AM by Tsiyu
is when "Johnny Reb" down here gets all up in arms about it.

I was born in NY. I learned after a few months in the South to respond to the question "Where are you from?" with the answer "Well, which state do you hate the most?"

Invariably they replied "New York." (occasionally it was California, or for die-hard sports fans in GA, the rare "Florida" or "Alabama," but 99% of the time it was my homestate they hated most.)

They hate Yankees, many want to seceed from the North, and yet they care about a Muslim Community Center in the state they hate the most?

Give me a break! I laugh in their faces...they don't give two shits about what happens in New York. They're just liars and fools....

Edited cuz I called it the wrong thing....

Speaking as an atheist who lives in Atlanta, a mosque in NYC has zero effect on me whatsoever. It's private property -- let them do as they please.

But I consider the fact that the mosque has teabaggers and Christofascists all upset a bonus. :)

69. I support putting a Mosque on top of every multistory building in the USA!
That would stop this particular type of fundamentalist religious terrorist attack.

Hell, put a Mosque EVERYWHERE, and connect them to a "Doomsday Trigger" that would automatically release a naked picture of "The Prophet" on a million websites world wide. Then it would be THEIR fault!

Problem Solved!

or maybe not.
I just don't give a shit about religious fundamentalists of ANY stripe.
And THAT includes politicians who preach about a giant "invisible hand".
