Sprinkler pipe shuts part of LA airport terminal

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - People were cleared from part of a terminal
at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday after a sprinkler pipe
found in a passenger's bag set off an alert, authorities said.

The pipe was quickly determined to be harmless and belong to the
manager of a sprinkler company who was carrying it as a sample, a Los
Angeles World Airports spokeswoman said.

The item triggered an alert in the airport's Terminal One and the Los
Angeles Police Department's bomb squad was summoned to the scene.

Car traffic and two arriving jets were also briefly diverted away from
the terminal.
