Did you know that Woodrow Wilson caused a depression and that Harding ...
..... and Coolidge's conservative economic policies got the U.S. out of it and then
the progressive Herbert Hoover and FDR caused the great depression and made it
(the great depression) last longer because of their liberal ways?

Glenn Beck just told me all about it .... :puke:

4 minutes of a Glenn Beck history class is really weird and so devoid of facts that
it would be laughable if not for the weak minds it was filling w/ poison and lies.

Ho Chi Minh had shirts

Glenn Beck has shirts

So Glenn Beck is a communist follower of Ho Chi Minh

2. I don't know what he is babbling about, but I think Hoover gets too much blame for the Depression
I don't know what the heck Beck is babbling about.

I do think Hoover gets too much blame for the Depression. Hoover took office in 1929 - the same year the stock market bubble popped. Hoover wasn't to blame for the bubble or the excesses that preceded him. Hoover probably does deserve the blame he gets for a weak response, but I've heard too many people just want to put the whole thing on him.

4. You are right about Hoover and the depression
Although his response to it was weak and some of his statements showed a tin ear to the suffering
of the people Presidents Harding and Coolidge's action helped to lay out the framework for the
great depression ...... Coolidge liked to brag that he could take a nap in the middle of the day so the
country must be in good shape. Hoover was given a shit sandwich when he took office.

3. The Republicans are lying
Hoover was Coolidge's Sec'y of Commerce and together they reduced taxes to a maximum of 25%. Hoover continued Coolidge's conservative economic policies, and only changed course after the Depression hit. The Depression hit in 1929, and Hoover changed course in 1932, being forced to concede that conservative economic policies had been a disaster of historic proportion. This is the same sort of revisionism whereby the Republicans attempt to take credit for Civil Rights or call Hitler a leftist. We have to be on guard against these sort of lies because the Republicans are better than anyone at lying with a straight face. We can't let them rewrite history.

7. +1.
Especially re calling Hitler a leftist.

As to Civil Rights, a Republican did free the slaves and northeastern Republicans in the 60's certainly supported Civil Rights, but for Conservative Republicans to try to grab the mantle of Civil Rights champions is ludicrous. Conservatives have opposed every single civil rights bill ever created, from supporting slavery, to opposing voting rights for women, to supporting poll taxes, to opposing integration.
