NYT: New Producer at ‘Nightly News’ Seeks to Regain NBC Dominance

Alexandra Wallace, who got the equivalent of a battlefield commission when she was named executive producer of “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” two months ago, keeps her plans for the broadcast on a to-do list streaked with tight scribbles from a black, felt-tip marker. She calls it her “crazy person list,” and she is continually cutting and pasting it, as if it were a worn map to buried treasure. (Mr. Williams has another analogy: “It’s like her blankie,” he says.)

One section contains “my little list of who I love and would love to get on ‘Nightly’ ” more often, including Ann Curry, Tim Russert, Tom Brokaw (Mr. Williams’s predecessor) and Keith Olbermann of MSNBC, whom she plans to enlist to do occasional “end pieces” at the conclusion of Mr. Williams’s broadcast....

He's going to do pieces for the NBC Nightly News. Not sure if they'll amount to Special Comments, but he will do several each year.

2. It was interesting that she would have him end the broadcast --

that's why I wondered if they might possibly take the form of the Special Comments. I doubt, however, he'd be allowed to be as free as he is on "Countdown" -- but, hey, he seems to be able to skyrocket ratings.

from the 'Oddball' lovers.

If I get to watch his show live, I watch the Oddball segments. Mostly I watch the recorded show later, and Oddball (also the final segment of celebrity news and gossip) is just not what I consider 'high value' material that I must watch, and usually don't.

To each his own! I certainly meant no offense.
