I got to say this and sad to do so, but Arizona is now
The mental ward of the United States.
Evidence:
Joe Arpaio gets his lapdog in as County Attorney and NO Democrat is running.
Russell Pearce and his neo-nazi pal J.T. Ready and yet he will stay in power.
SB1070 enough said right there.

Joe Arpaio is STILL Sheriff. If the law doesn't obey the law there is no law, just a fight for survival.

Jan Brewer looks to be getting stronger even though she showed herself to be a mental case.

Sure you can add more, I got to go get a tissue to wipe away the tears now that I have to admit, Arizona makes Mississippi look normal.

1. "Texas is too small to be a nation, but too big to be a mental asylum."
That was always the old saying, but now Arizona may be pushing itself to the front of the line passing Texas and South Carolina as our nation's most reactionary state. South Carolina pretty much still gets to wear the crown in my eyes. But Arizona may have passed Texas up for the Runner Up.

3. If I had a couple of paychecks stashed away, I'd be gone from here.
I've lived nearly my entire life here and have been in Phoenix since the state had less than a million citizens. I LOVE it here, but the people wear their hate on their sleeve and assume that I think like they do.

I can no longer stand it and am actively looking for work elsewhere. It breaks my heart--I remember my mom and dad campaigning for Raul Castro and Bruce Babbitt.

How truly far we've fallen.

9. Don't give up. I love Texas and I love Arizona.
I think Governor Brewer is toast after the debate.

I'm pulling for Arizona. After all, you are my neighbor there. :)

2. I'm sorry you got it so rough out there Sarge there is clearly an insane majority out there
Its not new though, they were fucking batshit with MLK Day too.

Come on to the Commonwealth we need a few more to turn the tide and it's rather nicer and probably cheaper.

4. Great to see you back again!
:pals:

You were missed!

As for the problems with Arizona... I chalk it up to my fundie, racist sister and her bigot husband being there.

6. Hey there! Thanks for noticing hehe
Family is a mess aren't they? I'm kinda lucky I guess mine can tend toward fundie but not real hardcore and the racism is damn difficult to pull off.

Well...except for my mom and that's hard to gauge because she is kind of a Archie Bunker type against every race on Earth and every theoretical one too except maybe Wookies but she might just dig Chewbacca and will dog out the rest of them.

She's got to be the only omnirace bigot in the world.

5. Help is on the way! Me & the Missus are moving to Tucson for a year
Should be interesting after growing up in the S.F. Bay Area and being left of Kucinich, but I think Tucson has a higher proportion of sane people than much of the rest of the state.

We will be moving in December. Sorry but we have to stay in Calif long enough to vote for Barb and Jerry.

Even though I know there will be some culture shock, I'm actually looking forward to the move. California has become such a nanny state, especially with their gun laws but also with almost everything else from smoking to having your dogs in the front seat of your car, that I'm ready to leave.

13. I'm game. What does not compute?
I'm moving to Tucson to help my wife take care of her aging mother who happens to live in Tucson. My wife has relatives in Tucson. I retire on Oct. 1 and can live a hell of a lot cheaper in Tucson than I can in Silicon Valley so why would I not move?

Ohhh, I get it... you want to pretend that I or other DUers are "nannying" you.... trying to get you to defend yourself.

Nope, sorry, not playing.

I lost my "nanny" hat.

16. she does not believe
that a person to the left of Kucinich would use a term like "nanny state".

Although I can definitely see it. If being leftist means caring about the poor and the working class, then things like smoking bans and dogs out of the front seat are not really high on progressive priorities.

19. Come On Down ...
I've been in AZ for 15+ years and I'm convinced that the Tucson metro areas is the ONLY part of the state that I could live. It is, by far, the most diverse, educated and liberal cities in the state, thanks largely to the University of Arizona.

But don't kid yourself, Tucson has a lot of reactionary noise-makers.

11. If one was to give the state of Arizona an enema, Maricopa County would be the point
of insertion.

17. You raise one of the problems I found here in Arizona
I came here and did progressive talk in this valley. I soon discovered there was a divide that I found very harmful for Democrats, and that was the Tucson Democrats had a rift with the Phoenix Democrats and the Flagstaff Democrats and all had a problem with the others. I invited Tucson Democrats on my show as I did Flagstaff Democrats but eventually I would hear from them about this division. This is one reason Brewer is so far ahead because we are a divided lot in our party over useless crap. I have people in Tucson and Flagstaff I think highly of but this divide makes it harder to work together. We really need to stop it or we just add to the loonies growing stronger.

Nasty, nasty stuff.

Of course, I've never been one for local politics, I pay more attention to national. I know, my bad.

Well, at least people do not say "What's the matter with Arizona?" every time you say something they take issue with.
