Poll question: A reality check on the safety of our soldiers in the Middle East. |
Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 07:58 PM by Better Today
Please choose which option you think MOST negatively affects the safety of our troops, degrades the reputation of our country, and aids the recruiting efforts of terrorists? My choice is #4, for being the worst because even though #3,6, and 7 are really, really bad, the worst thing is that when brought into our courts and our new administration, they are apparently deemed acceptable.

4. Apparently not since the recruitment to radical Islam and terrorists has |
been on the rise based on anything I've read.

3. Hence the "other" because I knew I'd forget something, which really says something |
about how many options we have that indicate we are simply not handling any of this well.

5. Other: Simply being there in the first place. |
If they weren't there, they wouldn't be in any danger, no matter how many copies of the Koran were burned by idiots. They don't need to be there, should never have been there and should be gone posthaste.

6. Other: Insane use of massive armies against small scattered bands |
and then inspiring insurgencies against us and our puppet governments. This results in getting bogged down fighting people we had no beef with and them none with us.
There are plenty of problems but the entire way this is being dealt with is what puts the most lives in danger on both sides.

8. Yep, you've nailed it. I'd add too that the conditions we seem to leave behind |
aren't exactly promising. Now Iraq, which was secular, is now Islamist, though there are still issues as to whether it be Sunni or Shite. Afghanistan was ignored for so long, it's nothing but a huge corrupt sink hole, very little improvement, if any, in the lives of ordinary Afghans.

9. Really??? I can't agree with you. Dozens doesn't seem like very many |
when you consider the thousands that have died because we are in places we are not invited and had no business occupying.

18. Well, I've got little sympathy for "us" at this time, considering the |
number of people we've killed, innocent people, the number of people we've displaced, the ruinous state we've left behind to date, and so on. So yeah, I guess in my mind it would be tough titties. But I'm one that doesn't get terribly upset when people who sign up for war (like soldiers) and for positions that support war (like embassies) get attacked. I get much more upset when innocents are killed and maimed because we keep putting out "green zones" in the middle of their populations.

Dozens died because of extremist terrorist assholes who wildly overreacted to a mild provocation.

10. Pretty much everything we do in Mideast is worse that this event. |
This is one jackass and his followers doing something idiotic, and getting a lot of play because mainstream media loves to cover this kind of faux crisis.
The GOP loves making the dialog about 9-11 and Muslims, because that's been their campaign strategy since 9-11.
This whole thing is much ado about nothing, whether the guy burns the Koran or not.

16. I think your point is probably the reason for #4 in the first place. I have been |
so disgusted and discouraged that when the new administration took over, it chose to continue all the secrecy, but then to add that the courts are upholding all the corruption, the torture, etc. . . well, like you say, it is most likely because the elites that rule our pols and our judges wanted to pillage and profit.
