Not Ony Is The Stimulus Working; We're Still Tapping Into It With Lots More To Go
Edited on Thu Sep-09-10 06:55 AM by samplegirl

Vincent Terando at TPM proves that it is absolutely false to say the stimulus isn’t working. In fact, much of it hasn’t even been incorporated yet into the economy.

date from ProPublica, 35% of the government’s $790 billion original fiscal stimulus program (started in early 2009) is still on the way. ‘Tax cuts remaining’ and ‘stimulus money either unspent or in progress’ total $278 billion dollars.

This $278 billion will likely be delivered by the end of 2010, and it’s a huge sum for just four months. Thus the remainder of 2010 will continue to be supported by stimulus, and investors should take note. 2011 is when the economy will lose its training wheels, though an additional round of economic initiatives currently being debated could push the timeline back even further.

1. There is a lot of road repair all over Eastern PA, with big signs saying that it is
funded by the recovery act...Half of Philly seems to be under road repair, and we have a lot going on up here in the Reading area, too.

Somebody is working...

2. It is working
I has been working, and it will continue to work. It's sad that they left so much to be spent this late. Even sadder is that it will really start to run out here by 2011 and we really haven't recovered yet. It should have been bigger. It needs to be bigger. And it's going to have to last longer.

3. It prevented a Great Depression, but it could have done so much more
A stimulus in the 1 trillion neighborhood, focused on infrastructure and state aid to save and create jobs directly, rather than siphoning off a huge percentage into usless tax cuts, which just went right into savings accounts and paying off credit card bills.

4. Again, your bill would have never passed.
Why is that so hard to understand?
