Just some small questions about the scheduled book burning |
|
Why doesn't someone call the press and burn a 'bible' for them? quid pro quo and all that. I would do it, but I am, quite honestly, afraid of the nazi's who are burning the Koran. I mean that's where we are now, isn't it? Isn't there a law against doing things that endanger America and Americans abroad? I mean, if there isn't there sure as hell should be.
This book burning 'preacher', nazi fellow from Florida is a real piece of work. I thought I was ashamed during the last administration, but the shame I am feeling today goes far deeper.

2. Burning a Bible isn't going to change anything. |
|
He has gotten too much publicity. That is the problem. If he had a book burning, and the only people who showed up were the fifty or so who are members of his hick church, nothing would come of this.

3. The Rude Pundit set up a Facebook group ... |
|
<snip> "Burn a Bible on Christmas." It's a stupid and childish response to a stupid and childish action. God or Allah or Whoever or Nobody bless the First Amendment for allowing us to "nyaah" in response to their "nyaah." And, perhaps, it might drive a few fundamentalists over at the Dove Center a little nutsy.<snip>

Surprisingly enough, there were no riots or murders in response to the videos of the bible burnings posted to the internet. Here are the search results: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bible+burning&aq=fAnd links to a few of the videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQBw7koMoPshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CshCI90Nfqchttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anl2GKVcPTkNow what?

7. Because they do not represent the same thing to their respective believers |
|
The xtians got indignant about Maplethorpe and other offensive art, but they never rioted etc. By and large they are not into that level of significance of artifacts. However, muslims revere the book almost as much as its content. Look at what happens when false reports of dishonoring a Koran get out. Internationally muslims take sacrilege quite seriously and violently.

11. I am ashamed when anyone burns a book ( or an album), but for some reason |
|
it affects me more deeply when Americans do it and so I am even more ashamed that I could even think of burning a bible in response. I am saddened that we don't take the time to understand each other and I am ashamed that our so called media gives this guy the exposure he has been given.
I am not bowing to cowardice and hyperbole. I have seen how seriously the Muslims react to anything that is disrespectful to the Koran and so it is not a stretch to worry about our soldiers who are already in harms way.. And as for my calling the book burning 'preacher' a nazi.. that was just me. I have no proof of course other than his actions which remind me of the nazi book burnings of pre WWII Germany. Fear is fear and often generates rampant stupidity. I am getting heartily sick of all of it, especially when I participate.
