Want To Impeach? Prove It.
Edited on Thu May-17-07 04:15 PM by JFN1
As talk of impeachment rises on liberal websites, in the mainstream media, and even in some conservative circles, Americans who are fed up with the illegalities and corruption of this administration gird themselves in anticipation.

Everyone seems to be waiting for impeachment to happen.

But impeachment is not just going to happen.

If impeachment of these criminals occurs, it will only be because Americans forced it to happen.

If we want to impeach, we'll have to prove it.

Our Democratic leaders in Congress are dragging their feet on impeachment, claiming it is "off the table," "not under consideration," and "isn't going to happen." Yet Americans are in favor of impeachment (I saw a poll on one of the network sites, I can't remember where, that claimed 46% of Americans want impeachment, only 27% don't), despite the foot-dragging by Congress.

It's just like the war in Iraq. During the holiday season, the television stations around here run little blurbs between commercials from soldiers stationed overseas wishing their families a happy holiday season. But where are these reminders of the war, and the service of our young people, the rest of the time? We don't see these reminders daily, and thus the notion of national sacrifice stays below the conscious threshold of our population. With no constant reminders, the concept of sacrifice is not maintained in the public eye, and therefore many Americans see the war as something happening to someone else, and not directly to them.

It is the same with impeachment. As long as we all talk about impeachment, as long as we all wait for Congress, or the States, to act on impeachment, nothing really ever happens.

Do you suppose our leaders are not taking our impeachment wishes seriously? Given the number of diaries on impeachment lately, if we are all communicating our wishes to our Congressmen, then how can Congress not take this seriously?

Like the war in Iraq, our desire for impeachment has really, on an individual level, cost the average American, well, nothing. If we are to rid ourselves of the cabal that has attempted a coup of our country, then it is going to cost us - collectively and individually.

Since our Democratic leaders seem to quail at the thought of starting impeachment, I believe we need to impress upon them the seriousness of our demand.

Therefore, I am asking every American who wants to impeach these criminals to participate in a national strike and nationwide protest on July 3, 2007.

I ask each person reading this to consider taking the day off on July 3rd and joining me at your local town hall, county seat, city government, or State legislature, to call for immediate impeachment proceedings against Bush, Cheney, Rice, Gonzo, and the rest of the criminal gang currently stalking the halls of power. And if anyone has an in with Media Matters, Democracy Now, or any other national organization, please see if they think this is a good idea and will support it. If we start to organize this effort now, we can make this happen. If even 25% of our nation participates in this, it will send the clearest message to our leaders we can possibly send:

END THIS DEBACLE NOW. IMPEACH.

1. Sounds like something right up MoveOn.org's alley.
I call Pelosi's office weekly telling them I want impeachment put on the table. I'm probably just another tally mark somewhere, but at least the point has been made.

3. Excellent effort!
But Congress isn't listening to us.

They FEAR impeachment.

Why? Because the Repugs set them up to fear impeachment when they went after Clinton - they can now, and forever, claim any impeachment effort started by Democrats is REVENGE.

The fact that our Democratic representatives give any lip-service at all to Repug threats, is beyond me, given the poll numbers circulating out there.

So I think we're going to have to prove we are serious.

4. Good point
Repugs want to be re-elected in '08, so a nationwide groundswell for impeachment will show those cowards which way the wind is blowing. They will have to answer to their constituents as to why they are not supporting it. And if we all go to our cities and State houses, any State legislature can begin impeachment proceedings without the need for a single Republican.

Let's make this happen. Let's make some noise!!

6. Impeachment is done in the House. Conviction is done in the Senate, afterwards. - n/t

5. Impeachment may be even more possible
From the latest column by *puke* Robert Novak:

"We're not hostile to the administration," one prominent conservative House member who did not want his name used told me. "We just want it to be over."

So when impeachment time comes, perhaps the Repugs won't be so adverse to saving their own skins...

9. I am totally against impeachment.
I'm in favor of conviction of treason and war crimes AFTER they leave office. WHY?

Because I really do not want Nancy Pelosi to give up her spot as speaker. The position is important and IMHO in the long term she can do more good there than in the WH for a few short months.
