Anybody know about this "Bankrupting America" organization?
Edited on Thu Sep-09-10 02:16 PM by Canuckistanian
They seem to be advertising a lot on progressive radio stations lately.

Looking at their website, they're not obviously a conservative organization, but they SURE hate stimulus spending.
I really can't figure them out. But it's a pretty slick operation. Almost TOO slick. And there's no mention of any founding members.

Anyone know of them or their parent organization, "Public Notice"?

6. Sounds like another Koch brothers operation
They're usually a little more subtle, though, choosing bland and pious sounding names for their front organizations.

Maybe they figure they might as well get it all out there now that The New Yorker has exposed them.

2. I have heard their ads. They sound like RW nutz."Bankrupting America" seems to be their answer to
the tax cutting frieze of the last 30 years.

They blame the Hedge fund speculator created 'crisis' in Greece on government spending.

They sound like a cover group for the NeoCons and monied interests in general.

4. That's what I suspect, too
But they're not peddling the usual Teabagger crap about "smaller government" and the Constitution.

3. It's from a loyal Bushie
From March:
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/03/former_bush_admin_spox_launches_non-profit_to_comb.php

A former Bush administration PR specialist has launched a new non-profit designed to raise the alarm about what it sees as "over-spending" in Washington -- but is staying mum on how the group is being funded.

... Public Notice's funding source remains obscure. In an interview with TPMmuckraker, Hamel -- who served as the Bush administration's top spokesperson on trade issues, and as press secretary for the House Republican Conference -- said Public Notice had "dozens of donors across the U.S.," but declined to identify them. "We will not be disclosing our donors," she said. "We want to protect the anonymity of our donors," she added, noting that other organizations of all political stripes take a similar stance.

5. Thanks
That's a whole lot more info than I've found on them so far.

Gretchen Hamel - I'll have to remember that name.

9. If any of you have memories that go back as far as 9/11,
you may recall that Osama bin laden threatened to "BANKRUPT AMERICA" as part of it's continuing terror threat, thus making us spend more of our money on wars and "security" to aleve the FEAR brought about by his followers. I suspect that his and his buddy bush's plan is working really well for them! I'm saying this "tongue in cheek" if you're interested! Follow the dots, or in this case ...MONEY!

11. Has Republican pawprints all over it
I saw a TV ad by them on the CBS Sunday Morning program today. (They're also a Glenn Beck advertiser -- surprise, surprise.) They're affiliated with right-wing PR firms and apparently well bankrolled by secret corporate donors -- so I'm sure we'll be seeing more of their propaganda in weeks and months ahead.
