Shocker! Sen. Nelson (Ambiguous - NE) comes out for extending ALL Bush tax cuts
September 9, 2010 – Nebraska’s Senator Ben Nelson issued this statement today concerning a series of tax cuts enacted during the previous administration that are set to expire at the end of 2010. Senator Nelson cast a deciding vote in favor of those tax cuts.

“I support extending all of the expiring tax cuts until Nebraska’s and the nation’s economy is in better shape, and perhaps longer, because raising taxes in a weak economy could impair recovery.

“Continuing all of the tax cuts could provide certainty for families and businesses in Nebraska and nationwide. Today, many businesses are sitting on cash because of uncertainty, which is holding back economic development across America.

“Just like the stimulus package in 2009, it is imperative that we take actions to help the economy. I hate deficit spending, but some matters are so urgent that they can't wait. Such was the case with the stimulus package, which contained more than $300 billion in tax relief, and I believe the same holds true about the expiring Bush era tax cuts.

“That said, I’d like to see these tax cuts paid for as much as possible. We need to focus on reducing government spending and finding offsets, where we can, because that’s the fiscally responsible thing to do.

“The federal deficit’s real and Nebraskans tell me that while we need to revitalize our economy now, we must minimize adding to the deficit because it will drag our economy down and burden our children’s future.”

6. We keep getting told to vote for ANYONE with a D by their name or it will get worse...
... And it gets worse anyway, because we refuse to clean up our own party.

Blind loyalty has a high price.

4. Color me surprised.
As to why he stays in our party, he very much enjoys his position at the fulcrum of power. When Democrats are in the minority, he happily crosses party lines to enact "bipartisan" legislation. Remember the gang of six?
The other party appreciates him very much, and treats him accordingly.

When we hold the majority, he obstructs like no other, and must be coddled and pampered to get even the smallest concession.

It serves him well to stay where he is. It infuriates me to see his shortcomiings heaped on our President's head. I hate him with burning hatred.

5. Why bother disambiguating? Nelson of Florida will be joining him by Monday.
Even if Congress is craven and greedy enough to vote for this, the President must not sign it. Tax cuts for the filthy rich when so many are out of work ain't gonna play in Peoria.

9. I can hear it now...
Roughly translated it will be:
"Well, you know can't do anything about it. Gotta work with the Senate we have. So no choice but to sign it. I mean if it were up to ME we wouldn't extend them for the wealthy. I mean I'm against it, but goshdarnit the votes just aren't there. Damn you Nelson. DAMN YOOOOOUUUUU!............o.k. see you when I'm out there campaigning for you in the Democratic primary."

15. The bill will be put through with all brackets extended....
Nobody will call out the deficit hypocrites.
Because they won't want to be seen as "raising taxes" (because god forbid Democrats should get out in front of a narrative and dictate the terms by explaining it how it really is.

The bill will go to Obama's desk with all the brackets (including the wealthiest) extended. The excuse given will be that they didn't want to burden the middle class with a "tax increase" so if the price to pay is extending the upper bracket as well then so be it. And the justification to the base will be some variant of what I originally posted.

11. He only wants to cut the deficit related to spending that helps the bottom 98% of us.
I'm sure he feels we should cut all those nasty social programs to make sure the deserving rich are not inconvenienced.

12. What gets me is that these jokers in the Senate are not as well off as the people
they want to do favors for. I guess they feel they can stay in power by playing favorites. Butt kissing mo fos!
