CNN shows SNUFF video ! Fuck you Wolfe, FUCK YOU CNN!!
I am freaking sick...The bastards just showed WAY to graffic videos of a pretty young Iraqi girl being stoned to death. The bastards even showed a melon size rock hitting her face & it exploding in blood. She struggles to get up to no avail....

I know the horrors of this situation can't be totally hidden but for fucks sake man! This is a SNUFF video!. I can't imagine how many kids have seen this. Fucking Janet Jacksons puny breast is an outrage & they show us this.

I think they are trying to enrage us against "the enemy"...Hence this shit is justified.

Not in a civil society but I guess that friggin boat has sailed.

people complain that they're hiding the news from us.

I didn't see it, but I presume it was aired with a warning that the content was graphic.

Aren't the Kurds considered to also be Iraqis? Kurds are Sunnis and Shiites. I may be incorrect but didn't this take place in Kurdish territory? Aren't the Kurds the most prominent US Allies?

Do you doubt that this shit happens?
This happens every day over there. They're called honor killings. You're completely deluded if you honestly think this isn't how the muslim world treats their women.
We knew a girl who was over in Saudi Arabia on business with her husband. Apparently they had a car accident, and she broke her leg and a few teeth broke off. She was sent to the women's hospital, he to the men's. Apparently they do not have anesthesia in the women's hospital, however they do in the men's.
This is the same thing. They will set women on fire if they find out that they've been raped or even if she doesn't have a hymen, which happens to go away naturally in some girls. MAybe you should read a little bit, and not take EVERYTHING that people you don't agree with say, and do some research of your own. It's not a nice place for women, whether you want to believe this or not.

55. Where did I say this incident did not happen
It did, what I said was it was being over publicized. There have been threads on this incident on DU for 2 weeks, the video has been on youtube for almost that long. The girl was not Islamic she was a Yadizi, a Kurdish tribe that has their own religion that is biblically based but is not Islam. BTW a paternal uncle worked for Mobil oil in the '60s and '70's, their family lived in Jeddah for years, I have heard alot of stories about the treatment of women and various forms of criminal punishment, never have I heard that womens hospitals do not use anesthesia or the burning of women alive.

it becomes propaganda, the impression is supposed to be that this happens everyday thing, not a tragic extraordinary happening. Now I do not know what has been on Discovery Times but I have never heard about about some of the things you describe from either family or Muslim friends.
Keep in mind that the Kurds will not sign the oil deal and that things between American soldiers and Kurds are tense and have almost come to a shooting war on at least one occasion.

Yes, broadcasting that stoning is agitprop of the most sordid kind: real-kill splatter film. "Faces of Death" stuff. Guaranteed to rile up the proles, and get them ready for some hideous act of state-sponsored over-kill.

20. Pravda and CNN are synonymous and have been for a while....

Remember on 9/11, when they showed Palestinian children smiling and dancing in the street, with the inference made that they were cheering the tragic events of the Twin Towers? Well, turns out it was archived film footage of months before, when adults were throwing candy to the kids.

Catapulting the Propaganda indeed. Here is your enemy, and you will hate him. The enemy is evil, an animal, and you will destroy him.

Pure Goebbelian manipulation of emotions.

Though the stoning video is about two weeks old now. Why would they show it now?

It is horrible to watch and know that cultures still do this. Look at us, we still put people to death. We imprison for years for minor drug possession.

Screw CNN. The Canaan News Network strikes again.

53. And you trust the corporatist media why?

Because they try to cover their ass after being called on the propaganda they displayed minutes after 9/11? I remember vividly, minutes after the planes struck, CNN parading this crap. Just like every talking head with pro-Israel views expressing the opinion that now Israel and the US were fighting the same enemy. All of them, of course, lined up to speak on CNN. The propaganda was created to fuse the Israeli struggle with the new American one. If Palestinians were celebrating our terror, then surely they were the enemy. Once you decipher the manipulation, it becomes a piece of cake to see it.

28. Oh, they had the "disturbing images" warning but this was unacceptable.
I am not sure what you meant but this was a daytime national cable broadcast. Wolf Blitzer reporting etc.... A large crowd dragged the girl into a square while police stood by & did nothing. Multiple angles & images from video phones-way too convenient?.

The death blow was shown as well as many images of her lying in a large pool of blood with a huge (30lb) stone by her head. Was this REALLY necessary to get the point across?
Yes it was a ethnic killing & no I don't remember the sects involved. I was too sick from the video.

If you have seen this video PLEASE complain. Here is a direct link.

80. Wow-- now who's basing one's views on "faith"?
This crime had nothing to do with religious belief--it's based on misogynistic and xenophobic traditions of a patriarchal society that revels in its separateness.

They can use every "religious" justification, but it doesn't wash

"Christians" would stone women who have abortions -- based on their hatred of women and their love of power.

Get over the religious issue-- it's just cheap superficial trapping over a much more dangerous sentiment.

Organized religion is a sham--as is any organized belief system (religious or not)

that it's an attempt to flame hatred.

First, the attackers in this video are not muslims. Second, it doesn't do the PNAC agenda, or Bush, any help to show this kind of breakdown in law and order in Iraq. The authorities there are now supposed to be the good guys.

Yes, it's a shocking video, but I don't think news outlets are responsible for protecting my sensibilities.

I honestly doubt that most Americans would know the difference. I haven't seen the poll numbers recently, but the last time I saw them, I think at least 60-70% of our populace had no clue about the ethnic/religious breakdown of the Iraqi people much less the Middle East as a whole.

Unfortunately el presidente is not the only one who thinks its jus' a homogeneous group of "Muslimish" people messin' about over there. Well ok, maybe by now the difference between Sunnis and Shias is understood, but I doubt that anything beyond that has sunk in.

The Muslims didn't manage to convert ALL Arabs in the world way back in the Middle Age. Some remained with their non-Abrahamic old beliefs. Yezidi is one of them.

This is not "let's agree to disagree" material. It's fact. It's like you're arguing that the capital of the USA is New York.

74. No they are not
They are Yadhizi or something like that. Their religion is pre-Muslim. Muslimc alled them devil wroshippers because one of their gods is similar in name to "Shaytan".

A very isolated society.

The girl fell in love with a Muslim, and the results are the video. She was killed by her own family.

78. It doesn't matter, it's still the result of backward religious tribalism.
The whole "what sect are they?" argument--as if that excuses it somehow--is like arguing over whether the guy who bombed an abortion clinic is Evangelical or Southern Baptist.

Yazidis are not a sect of Islam. It's another religion entirely.

34. Oddly, I am OK with seeing dead bodies (was a nurse)--
but watching people in the throes of a graphic and violent death, AS it's happening? Not for public consumption, IMO.

go there and get the Ron Paul video and send it out to everyone you know - to provide some counterpoint to the Stoning video.

In too many cultures this kind of thing happens to women. It needs to be shown and it needs to become an internation outrage! If you don't want to see it change the channel! Thank you to CNN for showing.

52. As horrid as we find this, we must understand that this can be
the norm in some societies.

I don't condone w/this in any way, and if I would have been there, it would have been a little different.
But I wasn't so things played out as they did. I consider this nothing less than murder, but I am not in control over there.

It is sad when people are treated like this, and we can only try to educate people just how sordid a situation like this is. In Leviticus of the OT, those children that brought "shame" to their parents were to be stoned to death...I know of no Jew, regardless of sect, that would even consider such a thing today. This shows me that reforms and changes are possible, but they have to be fought for with education and if need be, daring attempts at rescue. If the people who threw those stones were in the same position, they would be crying like babies, begging not to die, if they were in such a position, perhaps things would change for the better.

It is so sad to read things like this, how barbaric people can seem when we look at them from our culture...

59. exactly

I think they are trying to enrage us against "the enemy"...Hence this shit is justified.

It is ugly shit -- the actual event -- but there's a whole load of really ugly shit going on in the world, and this is the shit they choose to show. Not much doubt about the motivation.

We made this civil war; we unleashed these forces knowing full well that this is what would happen: sectarian violence, brutality, repression. I won't turn a blind eye to the things my tax dollars have paid for.

65. I am NOT against this
When the media shows the true horrors of war, the media is doing the job that it's supposed to be doing.

The only reason so many people were for this war is because of the sanitization of it. Maybe if the media showed the true hell that war is, people wouldn't support it so often.

Maybe "horrors of a backwards-ass society that treats women like shit," but I don't think the war had a direct influence on what happened to this girl.

There were no soldiers involved, no air raid, no bombing, just humanity's inhumanity toward its weakest members.

87. Yes, because without a secular government (tyrannical or not) keeping people in line
all sects and cults are throwing themselves at each other with gusto.

I know it's lame to say "it's Bush's fault", but there's no denying the general deterioration of the country by the war favors "mob rule" of that kind. Maybe in this particular case the influence was small. Maybe not.

70. And our children our dying to support this...
WTF is wrong with us, why are we in some backwards country trying to force western ideals upon a population that is obviously stuck in the stone ages.

The worst part is, it was her own family that did this. How fucked up do you have to be to want to stone your own daughter, sister, niece just because she had a Muslim boyfriend.

82. Exactly.
We should pull out of that country right now and let those fucking mutant animals exterminate each other! Maybe this is offensive, but I don't give a damn about a culture that still practices ritual killings, and abuses women as is practiced in the fucking middle east. Why the hell are we there? Why are our tax dollars going to support this crap when I'd rather see these bastards that call themselves "men" rot in hell? People that would participate in the killing of their own daughter, wife, niece, etc, don't deserve to breathe IMO.

84. Clearly what we need is more Britney Spears!
:sarcasm:

When I was growing up, I was greatly affected by things I saw on the nightly news. Film from Vietnam, some of it very graphic. An Indian woman (Indira Ghandi, maybe??) getting stabbed in the stomach as she disembarked from a plane. A cameraman getting shot and falling to the street dead as his camera rolled in Ireland.

But seeing those things made me care. They educated me about the state of the world. They even galvanized me to political action.

We live in a land of Bible-carrying hypocrites, thieves and murderers.
