Will Pastor Terry Jones now be hailed as a HERO in NYC? I'd like to hear what Rick Lazio
and other pols who've glommed on to the anti-"Ground Zero"-mosque hysteria have to say about a ridiculous extortion scheme: "Hardball" just reported that Terry Jones will meet Imam Rauf on Saturday to discuss relocating the NYC mosque in return for calling off the FL Koran-burning.. IMO this is the most awful development imaginable for both the mosque and Koran-burning "controversies".

WHAT'S YOUR OPINION?

1. I think the Islamic cultural center MUST be built as planned or the terrorists win and America loses
It is as simple as that.

5. I know there's no deal--yet--between Jones and Rauf--my OP does not say there's a deal,
but rather that there's an extortion scheme with a planned meeting between Rauf and Jones on Saturday.

10. I'd like to see somebody like Rachel Maddow put some NY pol like Rick Lazio on the spot
about this.

I wonder whethersome of those who blindly "oppose" Imam Rauf's mosque now have second thoughts, or whether they're really HOPING Jones's extortion scheme works?

14. You asked for opinions. That's mine.
He needs to be ignored, by the media and by Imam Rauf.

12. More breaking news...
DONALD TRUMP is negotiating a buy-out of the community center. On condition it be moved 5 blocks away from the 9/11 site.

13. IMO, MILLIONS of New Yorkers must have been ELATED to hear of Jones's extortion plan
judging from the proportion who OPPOSE the mosque location--including many of those who say they "support" the mosque project.

From http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/09/03/new-yorkers-oppose-site-of-islamic-center-poll-finds/
"New Yorkers Oppose Site of Islamic Center, Poll Finds
By CATE DOTY--September 3, 2010, 9:19 am

... according to a New York Times poll, two-thirds of New York City residents, including many who describe themselves as supporters of the project, want the center to be relocated farther from ground zero. The numbers show that many people in New York City still have an uneasy relationship with Islam, and they reveal a complicated portrait of the opposition in New York: 67 percent said that while Muslims had a right to construct the center near ground zero, they should find a different site. Meanwhile, Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan and several other religious leaders in New York City are planning to meet regularly to try to reduce the kind of tensions that have surrounded plans for the center..."
