Afghan war book delayed over 'classified' material, Pentagon seeking to buy

The attorney for a former Army intelligence officer says publication of his client's memoir about the war in Afghanistan is being held up by defense agencies as retaliation.

Anthony A. Shaffer's book "Operation Dark Heart" was to be released on Aug. 31. Shaffer's lawyer, Mark Zaid, says the Army Reserve cleared the manuscript for publication before it went to press.

However, Zaid says the clearance was later overturned by the Defense Department after claims the text contained classified information. About 9,000 copies of the book now sit in a warehouse.

The New York Times reports that the Pentagon is seeking to buy and destroy all copies of the book.

1. Land of the free, home of the brave
I'm so old, I remember when that used to refer to the United States.

2. I do not understand people who think that secrecy leads to a better world,
especially when the secretive parties have proven themselves to be untrustworthy.

I especially do not understand why liberals support secrecy.
