San Bruno explosion: Families fear worst
from the San Francisco Chronicle:

Families of some of the four people killed in the explosion and fire that leveled a San Bruno neighborhood started to get the bad news today, while the list of governmental agencies investigating the blast piled higher by the hour.

Relatives of 81-year-old Elizabeth Torres, whose house on 1630 Claremont Drive was two doors from where a Pacific Gas and Electric Co. pipeline ruptured and exploded Thursday evening, believe that she is among the dead. A body was found at her Crestmoor neighborhood home, but the identity has not been confirmed pending a check of dental records, the San Mateo County coroner said.

Torres' daughter-in-law, Teresa Whorton, said she was born and raised in San Francisco, has nine children and loves flowers and plants.

"She was a kind, loving person," Whorton said. "Very caring and sometimes stubborn. She was a Capricorn. She loved her kids.

"Everybody on the block knew her and cared about her." ............(more)

Destroyed homes. Those homes and properties were still too hot to have people walking around their footprint.

The death rate is going to climb.

And meanwhile, P G & E can find "no proof" of anyone calling and complaining about the smell of gas. And KRON 4 says that makes it "official" - no one called in those weeks to complain.

It pays to be a powerful utility that has spent millions for a proposition on the ballot, even if the prop gets defeated. It means you still have a claim on what and how things are reported.
