The National Dialog: "Taxes"

I came to an "ah ha" moment yesterday morning.
Please excuse me if I am way behind most of you but I'd like to share it:

For years and years, through good economic times and bad, and continuing today, political pundits in radio/TV, and newsprint have focused on taxes.
This has had the affect of virtually burying any discourse on what has been happening to wages and benefits for the working-class.
Is this by design?

I submit that for many of us they could remove all forms of taxes and we still would not be making enough, nor covered enough via benefits, to live the "American Dream".
So in my mind the discussions should be of stagnant and falling wages/benefits but now, sadly, in this economy we need jobs period.
