STEPHEN PIZZO FOR BUZZFLASH

I’ve mentioned before that what bin Laden did on 9/11 was a page right out of Ronald Reagan’s playbook. Sound strange? Well, stop and think about it. After half a half-century long game of Mexican Standoff with the Soviets, Reagan baited the Soviets with his then mythical “Star Wars” missile defense system into bankrupting themselves. While Reagan had nothing that even came close to posing a threat to the Soviet’s nuclear deterrent arsenal, they spent billions more on it in the hopes of overwhelming Reagan’s nonexistent missile shield in space.

Nearly a decade ago bin Laden, and his decidedly un-merry men, created a similar illusion of an existential threat, and Uncle Sucker bit -- big time. Since then we’ve wasted somewhere between $1 - and $2 trillion (borrowed) money, lost nearly 5000 more Americans in battle, created a small legion of concussion-damaged veterans and killed and wounded tens to hundreds of thousands Afghans and Iraqi civilians -- most of whom never had any real reason to hate America, but sure as hell do now.

A stepped right into a trap, a trap built and baited by a nut who lives in a hole in the ground and follows ancient religious rules like eating only with his right hand because his religion tells him to wipe his ass only with his left hand. Yep, that’s the guy who baited the trap, and we took the bait - hook, and sinker.

Now we’re broke, just like the former Soviet Union. Ronald Reagan figured, why continue having to put up with those annoying Soviets when he could get them to commit suicide. Bin Laden knew he could not defeat America but, given the right provocations, he could get America to destroy itself. And he was, like Reagan, right about that.

1. The republicans (and many Democrats) have made sure the terrorists are winning
They are winning because they have changed this nation to be a nation of fear and hate.

3. Yep. Worked better than they ever could have hoped for
and the FBI still hasn't named bin Laden as a participant in planning the attacks.

2. 'Course, he had help from the 6 largest investment banks. Their religion
demands that they grab money with BOTH hands as fast as they can screw people, and they did so by leveraging derivatives to the tune of 40 to 1, putting their friends into government and changing policies so they could gather up taxpayer money when their bets went bad. They have no need to wipe, they just let it fall on everyone else...

And I am quite sure they are responsible for a lot more unecessary American deaths and misery than any burrow-living Saudi.

We were attacked on 9-11-01 because GW Bush was installed into office by friends of his father on the Supreme Court.

(His father was responsible for American troops stationed on the Arabian peninsula. It was a particular pet peeve of Bin Laden's.)

W's own parochial ignorance was enough to do the job of driving him from office in 2004. 9/11 was entirely unnecessary to shame or humble him.

Bin Laden is a double shithead for attacking without giving the American people a chance to deal with the mistake of its own Supreme Court by voting out the Shrub in 2004. Instead they rallied around him. Yuck. What a regrettable backfire.

Bottom line: We didn't fall into Bin Laden's trap. Bin Laden went for a personal attack against W son of HW by killing thousands of innocent strangers. It could not have been the plan of that asshole to bring drone fire down upon his own head.

Epilogue: There are none or nearly no American troops on the Arabian peninsula today, largely in response to the stated Bin Laden grievance and the Muslim awareness he awakened by the orchestrated attack upon George W. Bush, judicially installed president of the united states.
