90 Year Old Man Batters Wife to Death with Hammer after Argument about Health Care |
John Bunz, age 90, battered his wife to death with a hammer after an argument about health care. They had been married 68 years. He then tried to kill himself, but failed. (Photo by AP shows his self-inflicted wounds.) A neighbor discovered both bodies. ~snip~ http://www.talkleft.com/story/2010/9/9/152853/9182

1. I can't help but wonder |
If it was 68 years of abuse.

4. Something else happened here |
We're not getting the whole story. This makes NO Sense whatsoever.
Giving this man 17 years was tantamount to the death penalty.

5. I think it's more tantamount to life in prison, not the death penalty. Though not even that |
since he did live freely for 90 years.

7. I'm wondering what kind of mental illness he has. |
Although, you'd think the lawyer would pounce if he really did have one. Most people don't just kill their spouses after 68 years for such a tiny reason.

8. "A neighbor discovered both bodies" |
There was only one.
Pretty huge factual error.

9. I think that was referring to the husband's attempted suicide. |
He slit his wrist/neck with a kitchen knife.

10. I wouldn't call that "a body". |
But you are probably right.

11. It could have been dementia related. |
People can develop some pretty bizzare personality changes with Alzheimer's. This is not the action of someone who was mentally functional; not even if he was a teabagger.
