This is getting to the point of obsession, and I believe it's unhealthy.

Jerry Falwell is dead. The man is DEAD! D-E-A-D!

The day he died, the boards went nuts. People vented, went on tirades, etc. Heck, I've taught high school students in inner-city Los Angeles but on the day Falwell croaked, I actually came across four-letter words that I DIDN'T know before!

Consistent with the usual pattern, things have calmed down at this point. People "let it all out" the other day, and the boards are returning to normal. EXCEPT...

There's thread after thread hashing and rehashing the appropriateness (or lack thereof) of Tuesday's tirades!

People, it's been TWO DAYS! The man is DEAD! People got their rage out of their systems---it's OVER! Move ON!

People had the reactions they had, and it's OKAY. It's really OKAY! Let it GO! Please!

Concern trolls, indeed. I saw one today by a one day - five posts kind of person... and I wonder what they think they are going to accomplish.

People need to do what they need to do. I think it's the healthiest thing in the world to get things out of your system by writing about it, talking about it, etc. For someone to say it's unhealthy, well, it just pisses me off. No one has the right to tell another person how to feel, or how they might best spend their free speech.

But your message is exactly what I'm getting at. There are multiple threads that keep rehashing the "I'm not gonna dance on his grave" and "We should have responded more appropriately" and "I'm concerned about...", then there are threads RESPONDING to those threads; my point is that Tuesday's reactions (in particular) were Tuesday's reactions...they happened, they're over. People responded the way they did for their own reasons--let it be; it's in the past. However people responded to Falwell's death is okay. It's over and done...I'm asking that particularly those who were upset by some of those responses to just LET IT be over and done.

I think everyone who thinks others should stop saying or doing something here should just hide threads, and stop talking about it themselves. As long as threads continue to get replies, the issue, any issue, will not die.

Everyone experiences feelings differently. It takes some longer than other to purge the feelings of disdain someone like Falwell creates. I know plenty of gay people, for example, who have personally been hurt by what Falwell and his ilk have said and done over the years. There's not a chance in hell I think anyone should tell them what to do or how to feel.

Then there are Christians who have lived with this subhuman bastardizing their religion. They have the right to spout off long and hard, imho.

I have not posted about Falwell, but have been "lurking". I have to say while I understand both sides...

I "Get" what the folks objecting are saying. And it is not being heard.

If we are going to build a better society, WE MUST HAVE A PLACE FOR CIVILITY. Destructive anger, which is basically what I think we are allowing to get the better of us, is not something that is consistant with making a Just and Progressive society. Destructive anger derails Democracy. It inflates and kills communication. It is human and happens, but it is a root of violence and is not healthy.

If we want a just society simply "Demanding" it and having an angry revolution or some such does nothing. Look at the former Soviet Union.

Who are we emulating and learning from? Leaders in the progressive movement? Philosophers of peace? Ghandi?

There are times when just people have to fight in anger, but only when absolutely necessary. This is not one of those times.

By allowing this kind of anger, venting, whatever your want to call it, we only hurt what we think we want to do.

If we want to make a better world we have to fight this side of our human nature. Learn. Understand. Love.
