Rolling over laughing. I guess Bolton is throwing his toupee into the ring.

2. Ouch!
'Tis a mighty pornstache though. Good to know he has a backup career for when this doesn't pan out.

16. Don't discount her narcissism
The power and prestige of the WH must be VERY attractive to her (and she'd show all her critics who said she wouldn't or couldn't do it!!1!1!).

Reality-based advisors (if she has any--no evidence of that, yet) would persuade her that it would be folly to attempt it, but who knows what advice she's getting--or ignoring?

Besides, she's stockpiled millions already, with more on the way before the 2012 campaign begins. So she can afford to do it, if she chooses.

4. OMG. When I was a young mother living in Canada, the CBC reported
a story about powdered baby formula being sent by the UN to Bangladesh during the worst of the flooding. The water supply was contaminated, and babies were dying.

Usually, the UN sent premixed baby bottles of formula. No one knew why they would send powdered now.

When you are holding your newborn in your arms, this story hit hard. I have never knowingly used a Nestle's product since. The entire thing reeked of profits.

That was the 80's.

When Bolton was being considered for UN Ambassador, Lynne Finney came forward with a story about Bolton, USAID, the powdered formula, Nestle's and profits. Of course, Jonah Goldberg and the RW came forward with stories to discredit Finney, but what she said rang so true.

John Bolton is pure evil. And I still do not use Nestle's products.

14. If he is, he is in the company of a mover and shaker of the DLC and Progressive Policy Institute.
Edited on Sun Sep-12-10 10:29 AM by No Elephants
"The Democratic Leadership Council is a non-profit 501(c)(4) corporation<1> that, upon its formation, argued the United States Democratic Party should shift away from the leftward turn it took in the late 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. The DLC hails President Bill Clinton as proof of the viability of third way politicians and as a DLC success story.

The DLC's affiliated think tank is the Progressive Policy Institute. Democrats who adhere to the DLC's philosophy often call themselves New Democrats. Note that this term is also used by other groups, who have similar views on where the party should go in the future like NDN<2> and Third Way<3>.

The DLC's current chairman is former Representative Harold Ford of Tennessee, and its vice chair is Senator Thomas R. Carper of Delaware. Its CEO is Bruce Reed.

<snip>

2003 invasion of Iraq
The DLC gave strong support for the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Prior to the war, Will Marshall co-signed a letter to President Bush from the Project for the New American Century endorsing military action against Saddam Hussein. During the 2004 Primary campaign the DLC attacked Presidential candidate Howard Dean as an out-of-touch liberal because of Dean's anti-war stance. The DLC dismissed other critics of the Iraq invasion such as filmmaker Michael Moore as members of the "loony left"<12>. Even as domestic support for the Iraq War plummeted in 2004 and 2005, Marshall called upon Democrats to balance their criticism of Bush's handling of the Iraq War with praise for the President's achievements and cautioned "Democrats need to be choosier about the political company they keep, distancing themselves from the pacifist and anti-American fringe."<13>" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Leadership_Council

See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_Marshall (oddly brief wiki for a pivotal figure. My guess: 24/7 purging)

As I keep saying "progressive is a funny word." And politics really does make strange bedfellows.

Glass houses, stones.

13. Bolton already
has an organizarion plotting his primary strategy. It will provide extreme humor in the republican primary, for as long as he lasts. He does have money behind him from the necroconservatives (including support from Cheney).

18. The GOP 2012 field now covers most of Cluster B of the DSM IV.

Antisocial Personality Disorder: "APD is characterized by lack of empathy or conscience, a difficulty controlling impulses and manipulative behaviors. This disorder is sometimes also referred to as psychopathy or sociopathy, however, Antisocial Personality Disorder is the clinical terminology used for diagnosis (APA 2000)."

Suspect candidate: Newt Gingrich. Previous suspect candidate: Dick Cheney

Histrionic Personality Disorder: "Histrionics crave the limelight and constantly seek attention and approval. They tend to dominate conversations using grandiose language and frequent interruptions. Those with HPD can be manipulative—negative attention being better than no attention at all (Dobbert 2007, Horowitz 2001)."

Suspect candidate: Sarah Palin.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder: "NPD is typified by grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy. Narcissism occurs in a spectrum of severity, but the pathologically narcissistic tend to be extremely self-absorbed, intolerant of others’ perspectives, insensitive to others’ needs and indifferent to the effect of their own egocentric behavior."

Suspect candidate: John Bolton, Mitt Romney. Previous suspect candidate: George W. Bush

Only Borderline Personality Disorder is not obviously represented in the short list of 2012 GOP candidates, probably because they're too self-destructive even for Republican politics.

This is bad news, as the American public still fails to recognize these disorders as red flags that promise incompetent, criminal leadership. The disorders of Bush and Cheney were the driving force behind American public policy of all sorts, for years, and everyone they touched suffered for it.
