The Atlantic and Caribbean this morning

in Central America and GOM states
The system approaching Jamaica and Eastern Cuba will be mostly water but certainly needs to be watched by folks in Central America and GOM states.

Hurricane Igor appears to be a threat to shipping lanes.

3. Just lots of rain
and mudslides in a few areas. We'll be safe but I'm not sure about the squatters on the hillsides.

2. Batten down and be safe, Malaise
We don't need you to give us reports from the eye of the storm. We need you to lie low and report only when it's safe for you to do so.

You take care, now.

Love & Peace,
pinboy3niner

4. Not sure it will even be a Tropical Storm when
the rains come - those up the line have more worries.

Thanks :hi:

5. Not unusual for mid-September
Edited on Sun Sep-12-10 08:37 AM by slackmaster
Strung out like airplanes queued up to land at your city's airport.

People in Bermuda should make sure they all have clean pairs of shorts on hand.

6. You know Bermuda has a superb reef
that usually spared them the worst. That said, Igor does look ominous. When you're a tiny island it's easy for the eye to miss you. That's why Hispaniola and Cuba usually fare the worst in the Caribbean. Jamaica is lucky because of our shape.

9. Holy Shite that was fast
Thankfully it's no real threat to Caribbean islands. People in Bermuda must be watching this one again.

Today in 1988 Hurricane Gilbert was devastating Jamaica from Morant Point to Negril.
So far peak season has been mostly in the Atlantic.

10. There's only a very small chance of it hitting the US, but
it is still too early to tell. Let's hope it remains a fish storm.

11. My friends in Belze are watching 92L very closely
but so far looks like just wind and rain. Be safe Malaise. Hurricane season isn't over.

Cuba buffers a lot of the storms for you, but looks like you cannot hide from one of the orange blobs :scared:

15. Mostly water
Some areas will flood because we've had a lot of rain. I don't want to think about the new potholes coming for the roads but it's better than having to think about an approaching hurricane. :D

So far so good for 2010.

13. Excellent video about Igor. The models have it hitting anywhere
between Cuba and Canada. They don't know where it is heading.

Hurricanes are beautiful
http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/article.html
<snip>
There are few sights in the natural world more impressive than a hurricane near maximum intensity. Hurricane Igor certainly fits that description this morning, as it flirts with Category 5 strength in the Central Atlantic. Igor's rapid intensification burst brought the mighty hurricane's winds to 150 mph, just shy of the 156 mph threshold for Category 5 status. Igor is the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic in three years. The last hurricane stronger that Igor was Category 5 Hurricane Felix of 2007.

19. I suspect that the system moving across Jamaica now
will strengthen tomorrow which is also bad news for everyone up the line.
