Inaugural gay rights march in Savannah draws 500
http://www.ajc.com/news/inaugural-gay-rights-march-611832.htmlAbout 500 marchers gathered in Savannah to raise awareness for rights for gay, bisexual and transgender members of the community.
The city's inaugural Queer Power March was also a celebration of a federal court decision earlier in the week condemning the U.S. military's ban on openly gay service members. The Friday night march ended in Ellis Square.
The march is part of several gay-pride events scheduled to take place in the city this weekend. Supporters are also calling for Savannah city officials to allow benefits for domestic partners and to shed light on hate directed at gays.
