"Friends of Coal Bowl" - Friday night- no mention of Sen. Byrd or miners
Sadly the good guys (Marshall) lost in overtime to the the dreaded WVU'ers. Best game I have ever seen in person.

My right-wing brother and I were talking about the game the next day and we agreed that it was odd that there was no mention of the late Sen. Robert Byrd. We weren't shocked that there was no mention of the 25 miners who died in Massey's Upper Big Branch mine ...even though there should have been that too.

I didn't think that Sen. Byrd was that disliked by the mining industry nor did I think that he was that pro-UMW.

Still it was odd that there was NO mention of him. They did mention 9/11 (this game was on 9/10) and a local guy who was on the plane that hit the Pentagon and someone else (that we couldn't remember) but no Byrd and no miners.

--

My Republican uncle laughingly said "I hear they are going to burn coal right in the middle of the field" -- the implication being an in-your-face type of thing to the anti-coal crowd.
I followed that up with, "Are they going to sacrifice some miners?" this drew groans from my family. "It is part of the process isn't it?" My brother nodded and smiled.

1. Good to hear that we are 'dreaded!'
When might the mentions you seek have occurred?

And not a good idea to be 'anti-coal' up there, eh?

2. Sick to death of "Friends of Coal"
I see that slogan on everything here in Kentucky. They have it on license plates.

Coal-Bowl, that's kind of funny! Guess one of the teams could schedule the Wildcats and have "Coal Bowl Two" - or wait until basketball season. After-all, my alma-mater will soon be building the "Wildcat Coal Lodge" to house the Basketball team.

3. I agree
A grassroots organization. Elitist coal barons with FOC stickers all are on the most expensive cars in Lexington far from the coal fields. It is a complete bullshit organization.
