O'Donnell now ahead of Castle in Delaware GOP senate primary
Seriously, if O'Donnell wins, the GOP can pretty much kiss goodbye any chance of winning this state OR gaining control of the senate. All the people who predicted a GOP takeover of the senate factored that Delaware would go red because Mike Castle was a moderate republican that appealled to independants and moderate democrats. He is the most successful member of the GOP in the state. Once Castle retires Delaware will become solid blue.

Coons didn't really stand a chance against Castle but still shows a 10point lead in a Coons vs. O'Donnell match-up. O'Donnell may have enough nutjobs from Slower Delaware to knock-off Castle but she is not liked in New Castle County, which is a haven of registered democrats and independants. And since Chris Coons is extremely popular in New Castle County (where he served as County Commissioner for almost a decade),

So if the republicans fall short of regaining the senate they can thank Sarah Palin and the Tea Baggers for that one!

O'Donnell Leads Castle in Delaware
In an upset that might make the recent win in Alaska by lawyer Joe Miller (R) over Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) look like small potatoes, perpetual candidate and tea party favorite Christine O'Donnell (R) now leads Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE) in tomorrow's senatorial primary by a margin of 47% to 44%, according to a new PPP poll. An O'Donnell win would really shake up the Republican establishment and be far more significant that Miller's win. In Miller's case, he can probably beat Sitka mayor Scott McAdams (D) in the general election, so one Republican senator (Murkowski) would be replaced by another (Miller). Miller is much more conservative than Murkowski, but that wouldn't be a real problem. In Delaware, an O'Donnell victory would almost certainly mean that New Castle County Executive, Chris Coons (D), would suddenly become the odds on general-election favorite in this very blue state. If it is Castle vs. Coons, Castle will likely win because he is personally quite popular.

If its own internal polling gives the same results as PPP, the NRSC will pull out all stops and buy every minute of TV time it can get today in a frantic effort to stop O'Donnell. In addition, every member of the Republican leadership is going to be dumping on her today. The Republicans absolutely do not want O'Donnell to win this nomination because it would pretty much end any dream of recapturing the Senate. If she does win the primary, count on all the bad things the Republicans are going to say about her today resurfacing in Coons' ads fairly quickly.

Here's the Delaware math:

New Castle County population: 500k
Sussex County population: 157k
Kent County population: 127k

That woman could decisively win Sussex and Kent and still lose by 20% if we have good voter turn out in New Castle County. But New Castle can't dominate during a GOP primary since the GOP are massive underdogs in this county.

2. Naw

Castle is well liked across the board, and if it was an open primary, a lot of independents and democrats would vote for him.

7. I'll tell you this much, I am still worried about O'Donnell winning in November
because I've had 8 years of Rick Santorum as a senator (back when I lived in PA) and compared to O'Donnell he looks like a sane person.

I would have to think that if O'Donnell wins the DE GOP will pour their money into the house race where maybe they stand a chance of winning with perhaps a sane candidate on the ballot.

3. I got a Christine O'Donnell Robo-Call This Morning...
Edited on Mon Sep-13-10 11:45 AM by jberryhill
...and I'm a registered Democrat. They are hitting every telephone number there is.

If O'Donnell wins this thing, the DE GOP will implode. GOP Chair Tom Ross has done everything but run through Dover naked and in flames denouncing Crazy Christine.

8. But this is one time that it's not the Delaware GOP - they are so against her.
She is a teabagging wet dream even though she is an absolute nut job.

10. This is good news...
I got a robo call from the her campaign this morning. Usual talking points, Obama bad, fringe left, yadda, yadda, yadda. Also how horrible Castle is for voting with the radical Obama administration. Including voting with Obama on an anti-freedom of speech bill. It was kinda long, left on my machine.

12. You should read some of the comments at the News Journal forums
You point out this obvious fact to the nutjobs supporting O'Donnell and it flabberghasts you with their answers. They feel that because she's owed taxes, was thisclose to having her house foreclosed (a friend bailed her out) and scams on her campaign funds that somehow she's more representative of the working class when it comes to controlling crazy spending in DC.

This woman made $5000 last year. And personally I think there is something very wrong with using campaign funds to pay for your cost-of-living expenses. It's not illegal but it is questionable.

And knowing that the Mainstream GOP will probably avoid this woman like the plague during the general election (if she wins tomorrow) you just know that the Dems will pour money into this race if it's Coons vs O'Donnell. Delaware is a cheap state when it comes to campaigning because we are so small in size. Dumping a few million in the state along with a visit from Obama to the city of Wilmington will pretty much guarentee a Chris Coons win. FYI, I live in Wilmington and EVERYONE still has Obama stickers on their car.

15. NJ forums are a very special hell

The regular denizens seem to be fascinated by "keeping score" of the racial characteristics of individuals appearing in the crime reports.
