Some people have been hit in the head with Bibles too often...
I mean, Geocentrism in addition to creationism? :wtf:

Galileo Was Wrong, The Church Was Right - that's the sensationalistic heading for the 1st Annual Catholic Conference on Geocentrism.

Geocentrism is the claim that the Sun revolves around the Earth, not vice-versa. From the cast of speakers at this event, I don't get the sense that the geocentric movement is growing, but with young evangelical Christian auteurs making short films about God beaming product-safety alerts directly into the heads of Christian housewives, who knows?

1. Those are NOT. NOT NOT NOT. Mainstream Catholics.
This is Mel Gibson and Rick Santorum types who loathe Vatican II. Shit, they don't even like Vatican I.

I don't even consider myself Catholic anymore and I hated them when I was Catholic.

Fuggin' knuckledraggers.

2. They're not just Catholics.
They're fundy protestants also, including Dominionists.

3. But non-Catholic Fundies are often very cautious in admitting the Church was right about ANYTHING.
Meh...collectively they can all go fuck a tree.

4. I just don't know what is wrong with some people.
Again, this is Rushdoony crap, Christian resconstructionism. I's say take it with a grain of salt, but we can't be dismissive any more. They might take over.

As far as being hit in the head with Bibles is concerned, I have a story. I have not seen my mother in person in two years. She is 81, but she still thinks she has a right to be abusive to me, her 62 year old daughter. The last time I saw her she tried to attack me with her Bible. I left before she could start hitting me. This is not dementia. This is SOP for her.

6. Why would she attack you with a Bible?
Did you have the *GALL* to say it was wrong on something? :sarcasm:

I have an aunt like that. She is totally fundy, and prays for death on anyone critical of her beliefs.

I told her once to take her Talibornagain bullshit and shove it.
I think she's still praying for me to die. :eyes:

7. She asked me how I got my news and information.
She proudly informed me that she got her news and information from the TV and from her church.

I told her I read newspapers, magazines, the Internet and books. I observed that there were no books, magazines or newspapers in her house. Especially, there were no books in her house. She picked up her oversize Bible and told me it was the only book anyone needed. When she started to swing it at me, I left. I haven't been back. And hell will freeze over before she apologizes for her behavior. She is never wrong.

5. Yeah, right, "stationary" Earth
How fucking fast would the center of the Milky Way have to be moving so it appeared to move across a stationary Earth's sky? Because anything further away, say the Andromeda Galaxy, would have to be moving even faster. I suppose they have a theoretical basis for how things can move faster than the speed of light, but frankly, I these morons make my head hurt. The people that would plunk down money to hear them are even dumber.
