Poll question: Anyone besides me pissed that Martin Bashir just got a new MSNBC show and Cenk Uygur did not?
MSNBC's new revamped anchor line-up schedule below:

5:30-6 AM: Willie Geist
6-9 AM: Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski And Willie Geist
9-10 AM: Chuck Todd And Savannah Guthrie
10 AM-12 PM: Chris Jansing And Richard Lui
12-1 PM: Contessa Brewer
1-2 PM: Andrea Mitchell
2-3 PM: Tamron Hall
3-4 PM: Martin Bashir
4-5 PM: Dylan Ratigan
5-6 PM: Chris Matthews
6-7 PM: Ed Schultz
7-8 PM: Chris Matthews
8-9 PM: Keith Olbermann
9-10 PM: Rachel Maddow
10-11 PM: Lawrence O'Donnell

That is a bunch of BS giving Martin Bashir an hour while we are all waiting for Cenk Uygur to get a show!!!
And they are crazy for running a repeat of Hardball in the evening instead of putting Cenk in that time-slot!!! Grrr!

Also, Cenk has been filling at MSNBC for the past few months.
Many of those video clips have also been posted here on the front page of DU.

35. He did a radio/video show called The Young Turks
You should watch the Youtube videos - he's an excellent progressive pundit.

He was also a fill-in for Ed Shultz on MSNBC, and a lot of us felt he deserved his own show.

3. I was super pissed when I saw that
What is MSNBC doing? They have a handful of such great people and then they destroy any chance of having a great overall network by putting on these losers who are just terrible at their jobs. Seriously, this is a terrible lineup. Cenk is just so much better than everyone at that network put together, do they not realize what huge ratings he could bring in? He would revitalize the network and I am sure some of the people who would change to MSNBC to watch him would stick around for the shows afterwards. Its a win-win situation.

6. daytime m$nbc is a sad lot - bashir did 'the' michael jackson interviews
Edited on Mon Sep-13-10 04:46 PM by spanone
In 2003, Bashir conducted a series of interviews with pop singer Michael Jackson, as part of a documentary for ITV. Following the broadcast, which was viewed by 14 million in the UK and 38 million in the US, several media personalities accused Bashir of yellow journalism, claiming that he deliberately doctored the recordings in order to paint Jackson in an unflattering light, as well as emphasising the allegations of child molestation made against Jackson. The New York Times called Bashir's journalism style "callous self-interest masked as sympathy."<4>

In response, Jackson and his personal cameraman released a rebuttal interview, which showed Bashir complimenting Jackson for the "spiritual" quality of the Neverland Ranch, thus contradicting the journalist's previous statements that it was a "dangerous place" for children. Bashir also describes Jackson as a wonderful father and says that Jackson's relationship with his children "almost makes him weep".<5>

Dieter Wiesner, the pop star's manager from 1996 to 2003, stated about the influence of Bashir's documentary on Michael Jackson:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Bashir

8. Cenk is part of the MSNBC family according to MSNBC Pres Phil Griffin
Excerpts:

.... And recent ratings show that the 40-year-old host outdrew MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan on the five days he replaced the daytime host in July and August. (While Ratigan averaged 276,000 viewers in August, Uygur drew an average of 293,000.)

Cable executives hope fill-in hosts can at best hold on to the audiences they inherit. But MSNBC insiders said they believe Uygur did so well because many of those who watch his three-hour weekday Web program, (3 to 6 p.m. PDT) or clips on his YouTube channel jumped to MSNBC when Ratigan was out.

AND

MSNBC President Phil Griffin called Uygur “part of our family” and expects him to get “more and more” air time, though he declined to specify in what time slots.

But it doesn't mean Cenk was in consideration for a slot. Hopefully down the road.

22. Wrong again.
He said the political spectrum has moved so far to the right in the last 30 years that certain things he did even a modern day Democratic president wouldn't do. For example, amnesty for millions of undocumented workers.

He also explicitly said (more than once) that of course Reagan is NOT more liberal than Obama overall. Again, the point was about the shit of the political spectrum in Washington and the resultant policies.

And even if I wasn't able to do that, Cenk has explained *exactly* what he's trying to say in that argument many, many times. Since you don't watch his show, there's no way you could know this.

but I'm quite outraged at Laurence O'Donnell getting his own show. Especially after he tried to rip to shreds those two successive guests who were defending Social Security's basic health.

Would much rather see Cenk in that slot.

Will have to take a look at Tamron Hall; I've been wishing for another female anchor to supplement Rachel, and those ladies in the morning just don't do it. Is she (Tamron) on now?
