"Snopes are a couple of guys in a trailer park" is one of |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-13-10 04:42 PM by Cleita
the many enlightening things I learned today on talk radio. :sarcasm: Thom Hartmann had one weirdo after the other and this crazy woman called Cathy said that and she also said Fact check wasn't factual or words to that effect. I guess they are three guys in a trailer park to them. :eyes: Then Randi Rhodes later got a board full of the same types, tea baggers, birthers, each one not knowing what the fuck they were talking about. So I think Beck, Limbaugh, O'Reilly and Hannity must have been calling on the troops to call up left wing radio shows with stupid talking points and no ability to make an argument when the error of their ways were pointed out to them. All they can do is shout over the radio host because THEY HAVE NO FACTS and have to stoop to accusing the sources of living in trailer parks. Thom called a birther caller anti-American and Rhandi just told another nutjob that he wasn't an American patriot because he obviously didn't know what was in the Constitution and was against it.
Man I hope our lefties start calling them out for what they are. Go Thom and go Rhandi.
:patriot:

5. They need call screeners |
|
I know they think that they are being "fair" and helping to "educate" people by debating the crazy stoopids, but that is simply not the case.
Anytime crazy and stoopid is given any chance whatsoever to trumpet their idiocy over the airwaves, it dilutes, obscures, and ultimately destroys the facts and eventually destroys the ability to perceive the truth.
I can't even stand to listen to these liberal shows when the crazy stoopids start calling in. Why? What is the point? You can't debate a crazy person. Neither can you debate a stoopid, because in order to debate someone you presume they have a basic grasp on logic, deductive reasoning, and don't have religous devotion to erroneous assumptions such as "the earth is flat".
It would be far better if these liberal shows screened their calls and only had on intelligent, well reasoned, politically left callers and experts. Call it message purity or just plain marketing. I think it is another one of the myriad of reasons the left has a difficult time getting their message out. The stoopids and crazies don't want shades of gray, just one constant barrage of being told what to think, what to say and what to do.

It was a normal mix of people with the exception that there were a lot of college students. Almost none fit the trailer park red neck stereotype.

21. I lived in trailer parks throughout the West for ten |

years when my husband and I traveled around with a, guess what, trailer. It's not me that is using this to discredit the professionalism of the Snopes website but the caller into the show who obviously thought Snopes couldn't be a credible source because they lived in a trailer park.

and getting some of them to pause and think.
I love it when they say, "I thought you'd cut me off - I didn't think you'd let me talk." And they're absolutely shocked... cuz that's SOP for RW radio.
Patient as she is, sometimes even she has to give up. There was one guy on Monday that was rather entertaining to listen to. Totally whack.

 that's a good one! I have to turn off the radio when she comes on because it's painful the way she talks over people. "time to pause and think indeed". It's funny when it's kooks, but she does it to pretty much everyone.

I guess I don't have much patience for most talk radio. I like Thom Hartmann and a handful of other talk radio hosts probably because the level of hysteria is kept to a minimum.

39. She's not as bad as she used to be. She's different now and |
|
I like her better. Her audience has changed somewhat. Her show is carried on stations that also have RW talkers. Listeners discover her by accident and hear something they've never heard before. IMO, she's making an effort to interact with them. As long as they don't yell or insult her personally she will talk to them... and set them straight with facts. Sometimes I can almost hear the lightbulb go on over their head.

29. And Wikipedia is staffed by Cheetos-eating, D&D playing slackers... |
|
It was as recently as this past July, 4 that I heard from old friends-turned-freepers that Snopes is "highly fallable". When further questioned as to why, the hemming and hawing soon began.
I've also notiuced that as per many freepers, Wikipedia is staffed by Cheetos-eating, D&D playing slackers, and is wholly without merit. (Hence, Conservepedia blossomed to meet the need of faith-based facts and review...)
It is indeed odd to see such respected academics such as Gayatri Spivak, Henry Jenkins and Donna Haraway cite Wikiepdia in their works, while the Smartest College Student in the World (as they each tell me they are) dismisses it out of hand.
And though the burden of proof then moves from the thesis author to the critic, the sound of silence becomes more than a good song.
