This is what is so wrong with the right
and how they are not only ruining education but downgrading this country to their way only.

Just got a call from my son who teaches AP History and Honors History. Tomorrow they are showing Obama's speech to students because it is for the United States of America students. Well, he received this e-mail from a parent stating that her son was not allowed to be in the classroom for that, but also is not allowed to be in the classroom if Obama is mentioned or if socialism is mentioned. My son was ranting, "this is WORLD HISTORY, of course I'm going to teach about socialism and mention the President, damn they have questions on the test on socialism." He goes, " Mom, I don't bring my politics into my teaching but this is ridiculous, I want this kid out of my class."

Of course he spoke to the principal and he seems to be taking the mother's side. Also the whole school district is being called socialist for Obama because they are showing the speech tomorrow.

1. Do they realize that the AP Exam is a national, standardized test?

If the teacher doesn't teach what is likely to be on the test, all the students miss out.

When I took it, the long essay was on the bombing of Hiroshama and Nagasaki.

Imagine if my parents had tried to force the teacher not to talk about nuclear weapons.

2. Exactly
That is why my son wants him out of the class, he can't teach what he is suppose to be teaching.

13. The wingnut kid should bring an iPod to class that he can listen to whenever he needs to hide...
... from facts.

Because facts have a Liberal bias.

Parents want him to be ignorant, and he gets a big fat zero.

6. Call the parent's bluff....
Have the kid leave the room. HS kids just love being singled out.... especially if mommy is getting him singled out. It'll teach the kid a valuable lesson.

You son needs to polish up a few jokes and make the lesson about the speech really, really, good. The kid will shit bricks about being left out.

Hard on the kid, I know, but in (class) war there will be "collateral damage".

I was called into something similar, and I told the kid in front of his momma and the principal and the counselor that he was 18 years old now, and running to mom may not be an option next year in college. Mom was livid and demanded the kid be removed from my class. The only other person teaching my subject was a martinet, and the kid was yelling NO...NO... before the meeting ended.

Of course, I did have over 20 years experience and a rep.

8. I can't help but feel sorry for this kid.
Not only does he get a steady diet of ignorant nonsense at home, but his mother is trying to make sure he will never hear anything else.

10. Me too
I told my son to tell his mother if she doesn't want him taught right, then put him in another school that goes by her demands.
