Sarah Palin and the art of totally meandering and meaningless run-on sentences.
"I tell my parents all the time there is no better gift that they could have given me than besides such an appreciation for family and for faith and patriotism, it's been an upbringing in America in this most perfect state in America - Alaska, where we are independent and we have the pioneering spirit that more of America should hopefully get to look into the state and understand and really try to emulate because it's that pioneering spirit that America needs more of."

6. That was Emily Litella, another brilliant Gilda character
My favorite: "What's all this fuss about violins on television?"

R.I.P., Gilda...

7. I decided to use the search feature on Twitter
So that I would be able to read her tweets without upping her follower count. Here's a gem I got just today:

"Lamestream media: watch rerun of Glenn Beck's show today. Listen/Learn/Don't underestimate the wisdom of the people. Times, they r a'changin!"

The frightening thing is not that she's lapsed into total self-parody. The frightening thing is that people still buy her sh*T.

8. It's as though my mother-in-law was suddenly considered a presidential hopeful.

Which is both oddly endearing and very scary, all at the same time.

11. Exactly.
And whereas I imagine your mother-in-law is a very nice woman, the idea that Palin could really be elected is very scary.

People who say "oh, she'll get murdered in the debates" don't get the point - her fans - and that's the only word for them - don't give a rat's ass about the debates. In fact, if she faces Obama in the 2012 debates, if she "loses" all they'll say is "he was mean to her."

19. She (the MIL) is a good grandmother.....
Edited on Tue Sep-14-10 11:03 AM by Tommy_Carcetti
...and I'll leave it at that. Politically speaking she's in Atilla the Hun territory and isn't afraid to run her mouth about it.

I agree wholeheartedly with the debate issue. Remember Bush vs. Kerry in 2004? I.e. "You Forgot Poland!". Bush had arguably the worst political debate performance in modern history. If America actually based their votes on debate performance, Kerry would have been elected in a landslide. It's sad, but true.

29. Too bad about the MIL
But yeah, for these people, stuff like qualifications only make you an "elitist." There's this batsh*t insane definition of what an elitist. Somehow Donald Trump is a populist and a professor making a fraction of what he does is an elitist.

What scares me about Palin is that you can just mention this stuff and her devotees (thank you pinboy3niner) and they DON'T GIVE A SH*T. If the rest of the world thinks she's an idiot, that's their fault. Idiocracy is looking more and more prophetic.

I don't know if it's fair to say that the U.S. is the only country whose citizens are proud of their ignorance, but it's certainly the best example.

22. Another word for her followers: devotees
That's what the Hare Krishna followers call themselves. Many years ago, when I lived near one of their temples, I was stunned at the blind, unquestioning devotion of the very young people who were recruited into the flock.

Sarah Palin could pull a Jan Brewer in a political debate and her devotees would be absolutely certain she'd won. :eyes:

Diagram a Palin sentence.

Here are few I gathered during the election:

BLITZER: Does that mean you want to come up with a new Sarah Palin initiative that you want to release right now.
PALIN: Gah! Nothing specific right now. Sitting here in these chairs that I’m going to be proposing but in working with these governors who again on the front lines are forced to and it’s our privileged obligation to find solutions to the challenges facing our own states every day being held accountable, not being just one of many just casting votes or voting present every once in a while, we don’t get away with that. We have to balance budgets and we’re dealing with multibillion dollar budgets and tens of thousands of employees in our organizations.
=====

"It would be my honor to assist and support our new president and the new administration,
yes, and I speak for other Republicans, other Republican governors also, they being willing
also to again seize this opportunity we have to progress this nation, together, a united front."
=====

"My concern has been the atrocities there in Darfur and the relevance to me with that issue as we spoke about Africa and some of the countries there that were kind of the people succumbing to the dictators and the corruption of some collapsed governments on the continent, the relevance was Alaska’s investment in Darfur with some of our permanent fund dollars."

16. Keith Oblbermann had a site on his show last night
(didn't manage to get it, damn!!!) that you go to, enter your name and press enter a few times and the computer produces strings of meaningless sentences, very akin to Palinspeak. They all sound reasonable, like the speaker is saying something but when you go to analyze what's being said - Nothing!. Anybody happen to catch the site?\

It's all there: Family, faith, patriotism, independent, pioneering, spirit, understand, emulate. Fill in a few random syllables between the buzzwords, and wa-lah! Sarah Palin cashes another check I mean, Sarah Palin inspires another audience to jam ice picks into their ears!

Sweet Christ, trying to parse that sentence would be like cleaning up a crime scene.

If Granny Grifter and Miss Teen South Carolina ever met each other face to face the critical mass of stupidity would cause the entire universe to implode.

the stupidity quotient was too low. Hence, Sarah Palin.
