Reid tweets Lady Gaga over DADT...
Twitter allowed Sen. John McCain to connect with the “Jersey Shore’s” Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi over President Obama’s proposed tax on indoor tanning. So perhaps that inspired Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to reach out to another pop culture sensation: Lady Gaga.

On Tuesday afternoon, Sen. Reid tweeted to the singer – who has more followers than President Obama –about “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”: "@ladygaga There is a vote on #DADT next week. Anyone qualified to serve this country should be allowed to do so http://bit.ly/9ucdIj #nvsen"

This came in response to a tweet Gaga (aka Ms. Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta ) had directed at Sen. Reid earlier in the day: “Gay Veterans were my VMA dates. Repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell. CALL HARRY REID to Schedule Senate Vote.” She linked the tweet to a picture of her walking the red carpet with two men in uniform at Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards.

Note: Sen. Reid announced on Monday that the Senate would vote next week on the U.S. military policy. The Grammy-award winner’s appeal may not have been necessary to get the vote scheduled, but it unquestionably raised public awareness of the event.

7. On the contrary, I hope this encourages her.
Lady Gaga has proven herself to be an outspoken advocate on behalf of gays and lesbians and their full equality under the law. DADT is just one part of that.

If Lady Gaga's tweet helped to push Reid on this (and I'm not convinced that it did), then I hope this act will enourage her to continue to speak out on other gay rights measures: DOMA, ENDA, anti-bullying laws, etc. We need all the allies we can get in this fight, and especially considering her following, I'm glad she's on our side.

Regardless, Reid's return tweet was a very good move on his part. :)

:hi:

Edited to add: And thank you Senator Reid for bringing this bill forward for a vote! It's time to get this done.

6. If Lady GaGa should ever meet Harry Reid
I hope she's wearing a dress fabricated out of spines and vertebrae.

8. She's such a freak! I love her!
I must confess that I really don't like her music at all, but I'm a huge fan of her persona, her fashion sense, and now apparently her political views... or at least one big one!

12. My sister likes her music...
And she played some for me... eh... not by cup of tea, and I consider myself to have a most vast area of interest musically. I think, if she continues to use her awesome power for good, she can be a great help to progressive causes!
