Delaware R-SEN primary: O'Donnell stronghold sees much higher turnout than normal
Edited on Tue Sep-14-10 04:54 PM by BzaDem
"Of the three counties in the state, Sussex, which includes the southern part, says anecdotally it is seeing much higher turnout than normal in an off-year primary. This is the area where Christine O'Donnell has concentrated a lot of her efforts in her bid against Rep. Mike Castle.

"Excellent turnout" is how Kenneth McDowell, the county's elections director, put it to CNN. In many districts there are contested local contests as well helping to boost the number showing up at the polls, and in those areas McDowell expects turnout by the end of the day to be 40-45 percent.

New Castle, which includes Wilmington and is the largest county in the state, is seeing "a little higher" turnout than it has seen in previous off-year primary elections, according to Anthony Albence, New Castle's director of elections. He says it is not anywhere near record-breaking though."

Sussex county is an O'Donnell stronghold that will likely vote for her 3-2 or 2-1. If they vote more than the rest of the state and O'Donnell wins, Democrats get the Senate seat.

3. She will be much easier to beat. Biden already beat her by a 2-1 margin in 2008. n/t

4. That's exactly what she needs to win this primary
If Sussex has better turnout than New Castle, then she wins. I'm cautiously optimistic, but I think she's headed for an upset.

7. We have 3 counties and the lower 2 combined equal about 2/3rd of the Upper County.
Guess where all the democrats are located.

6. Sussex County has 150k people whereas New Castle County has 500k
Now mind you that's people, not registered voters. But New Castle is a democratic stronghold and are big fans of Democrat Chris Coons.

We just need to make sure that Wilmington turns out the vote in November and we'll be fine.

But I'll be honest, there's a smart part of me paranoid as hell she could some how end up as our senator. :scared:

9. While New Castle county is larger, its Republican population is not so large.
The key here is for O'Donnell to beat Castle. If Castle wins, he likely gets the seat according to every poll (by high single digits or low double digits).

10. Honestly any other year I would say this is a done deal
O'Donnell is nuttier than a Almond Joy bar and there is a strong anti-incumbant/pro-right wing wave of voting going on in this country. Having O'Donnell for my senator would almost wish I was back in PA with Rick Santorum as my senator. Sure he was a right-wing republican but he wasn't bat-shit insane. This woman is. And not only is she insane she's the biggest fraud out there. She lied about her college degree (didn't get it until 23 years after she graduated when she was called out on it), lied about her masters studies at Princeton (never went) and lied to FEC by claiming her house as her campaign HQ so she can defraud those who donate to her campaign so she can pay for her living. She preaches abstinence but I suspect a 40+ year old single woman living with a man (she says is her campaign manager) isn't the virgin she says she is.

She is fucking scary beyond belief and she hasn't really made more than $10k a year in her life. She runs because Jesus tells her too. If it wasn't for whackadoos like Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck we wouldn't be worried about this potential mess.

And since O'Donnell has absolutely no record whatsoever to run on she's going extremely negative. Her staffers tried to start rumors that Castle was having a homosexual affair and claims Castle's people are stalking her home.

She is one of the two republican nutjobs that seem to run for office every 2 years - the other is Mike Protack, he scares me too. Two years ago no one with the GOP even bothered to run against Biden because it's a lost cause so DEGOP leader Tom Ross didn't care if O'Donnell ran because they weren't going to waste money on her. I'm hoping that he'll stick with that policy in 2010 and focus his money on a race he might be able to win with the Rollins (R) vs. Carney (D) house race (also statewide in DE).

I want Chris Coons to be my next US Senator but honestly, I wish that there wasn't a crazed woman as the competition.

12. This situation scares me. If she beats Castle (and it is looking very likely)
I don't see why she would not win the general election as well. The media has had her name out there for several weeks and showing her face so much that the dumbed down voters just might vote for her. The money will be flowing in there from the Koch family and all the big businesses and she could win it.

20. She's not going to win.
I don't see it happening. Delaware is too smart for something like that. msnbc is going to have a field day on her.

8. Yup, she's going to win the primary
I cringe at the thought of her winning the general. I'm glad she has no chance.

11. SHe could win the general
There's a backwash of anti- incumbant/right-wing craziest going on in this country. The numbers are totally stacked against her. I'm going to have to put in vacation time to make sure I drive everyone possible to the polls here in Delaware.

13. This has been a very well publicized race.
And I don't think O'Donnell has any chance at all in the general. Hell, after this primary even Castle will have trouble with Coons.

17. The GOP considered DE the lynchpin toward taking the Senate. They've Tea-Bagged themselves.
An O'Donnell primary win will set the table for a Republican civil war. Let's enjoy!
