6. An old boxing technique... |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-14-10 06:20 PM by vi5
I think Ali came up with (or made it famous). Basically you just lay back and let your opponent tire himself out by going after you hard and hitting you. You just play defense, keep your hands up and let your opponent tire himself out and when he's tired and weaker you start pounding him hard and knocking him out.
Also, every election that I've been on DU (since after 2000) has claimed going into every election that the Dems are pulling this technique. They are never right about that. Even the years we've made gains, I don't think it's been true.

title in 1974. He allowed George to keep punching him until George got tired.

4. You know the numbers of DUers who knew nothing about the context... |
|
of this term (and probably barely know who Muhammad Ali is)has increased dramatically... Perhaps you should define the term in your poll. ;)

12. The majority of DUers are reading this on a computer |
|
and they'd have little trouble going here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rope-a-dopeIt's the first thing you see when you put that phrase into Google.

Crazy suggestion. I think the President's in a bit over his head. He thought that halfway measures to do HCR and financial reform would fulfill the hope and change promises all by themselves.
Now if we were fully out of Iraq and Afghanistan, then maybe we wouldn't be talking about rope-a-dope.

I thought Obama was savvy enough about human nature that he wouldn't count on the American electorate (and their representatives) behaving like grown-ups. I was dead wrong.
