Of 80 threads on Page one of GD, *ONE* is directly regarding gay rights.
There are 8 threads now that the fever has died down about Jerry Fartwell, so I guess those are generally tangentially about gay rights, but there is also abortion and separation of state...

I mention this because I recently read on a right-wing board that gays have essentially co-opted this board and taken it over completely from the "moderates" (very strange thing to say, since in my view the gays are generally more moderate than other democrats, but that's another story).

And I have to admit, being more concerned about labor and economic issues as they relate to the poor and working classes, there are times when I have felt that GLBT issues are pulling away too much attention from other "bread and butter" issues, but just perusing the threads here, I have found that that isn't the case at all.

Just another thing where they are full of crap. In their little minds, one or two gay threads equals "they've taken over".

LOL, reminds me of my great uncle who lived in small-town north Texas. Back in the 80s, he used to complain about the "Mexicans are takin' over". At the time there was *ONE* Mexican family in that town of 5000.

1. Probably because LGBT issues aren't that controversial here...
there are probably many more people here who are not straight pro-choise or pro-seperation

2. Start 100 gay-themed threads and get a free toaster!
I dunno, man. Republican-Americans do not need truth to post on the internets.

3. A better test would be how many of their threads are "gay themed"
In my experience, it is the crazy homophobes who are always talking about gay things.

4. Very true.
When I first came down to Australia to work, I thought it was strange that people don't often talk openly about "the gays". Having been here for a few years now, I find that it is only because it isn't really much of an issue for most people here. Open, in-the-closet, no matter - they leave it up to you.

On the other hand, those who seem to fear "the gays" tend to be vocal and I haven't seen that here like I do back home in the States.

Just an observation.

I don't mind that there aren't gay threads everywhere because this place is comfortable for me.

5. Wouldn't this thread make it two discussions about gay rights?
Just out of curiosity, why do you bother looking at what some wingnut board is saying? Let the dogs bark--we have real work to do
.

what group of right wingers on the internets ever thought DU had any "moderates". I have always seen this place referred to as a bastion of "godless Amurika hatin' libruls"

7. There you go trying to spread the "gay" again...
:sarcasm:

Ummm... this is a LIBERAL website, we have no problems with gay people (at least I don't, anyways, and I'm straight). I don't give a damn *who* you sleep with, marry, whatever... to each his/her own.

9. All the threads are secretly gay.
Edited on Thu May-17-07 11:37 PM by Warren Stupidity
As are all of us posters. We use a secret subliminal encoding in our messages that delivers the secret gay agenda directly into the brains of anyone reading DU. I shouldn't be telling you this, but it doesn't matter. The secret subliminal gay codec has already done its job. We have put the gay on everyone.

Edited to note that the gay cabal needs to K&R this gay thread to the greatest page for maximum gayification.

All I learned was using pronouns in such a way that it didn't quite seem like a lie.

11. Frankly, I don't see enough gay threads.
The way people treat the gay community in this country is despicable. They should be hitting the rafters, pissed off every day as far as I'm concerned. And rightly so.

Gatorboy...we and our rights and lives aren't as important as the "bread and butter" issues.
You know that.

14. It's a COUP!
Edited on Fri May-18-07 12:22 AM by Madspirit
Whoohoohoo...we're taking the DU!

That is the most absurd contention I've EVER heard. Percentage-wise we are tiny...something I intend to do something about. Count the HUNDREDS of threads per day.

Just because people evidently found those threads more interesting than ones about light bulbs...OH WELL...

...and our rights ARE bread and butter issues.

Think about it. Or go Google "Coretta Scott King". She embraced us and spoke eloquently about OUR struggle as a Civil Rights Struggle.

....and don't EVER be an apologist for ME. I don't need your "hehe, the gays aren't THAT bad at DU."

This revolution's just begun baby...just begun. ...and I know how to be real bad. Viva la Revolution.

I'm not asking for anyone's permission to speak AS an oppressed person and for oppressed people.

19. Hi Madspirit.
I wasn't paying much attention to this thread, and I didn't catch your replies to it.

Sorry if you felt I was ignoring them, I got preoccupied with other tasks.

I cerainly agree that GLBT rights are important and a civil rights issue.

They do overlap into "bread and butter" issues, but that is not what they are primarily about.

I didn't think your thread about this needed to be locked.

"Just because people evidently found those threads more interesting than ones about light bulbs...OH WELL..."

LOL. God only knows I sure have trouble getting people to pay attention to my labor-related posts.

I'm sorry you took this thread to mean "See, our gays are not THAT bad"

when the only thing implied was "See how full of shit the freepers are AGAIN"

Like I said, 1 out of 80 is NOT a lot. Please keep keep bringing attention to issues you're passionate about, and I'll do the same with mine.

Who knows, maybe we'll overlap from time to time too.

17. I think the person who had been saying the "gays" have taken over
DU is now dead as a door nail.

I'm sure his last words were something about how they gays are responsible for the drought and fires in Florida. :eyes:

18. I don't think we have an overwhelming amount
of threads about gays but I like participating in those threads because I feel a kinship to the GLBT community and because of DU I have gotten to know more wonderful people.
You are right about the right, they aren't happy unless they are suppressing someone's rights.
