Obama needs to do something about the media
Edited on Tue Sep-14-10 10:45 PM by DrSteveB
Obama does not like the Fairness Doctrine. I do. Many of us do. That's fine. We can't force him to use the same goals we prefer in order change the system. But he outlined a plan during the campaign, to the effect that he would work hard to give more media ownership to minorities and women. Those are mostly Democratic/progressive groups. His plan didn't sound bad at all.

Has President Obama begun taking steps to achieve this goal? If not, he shouldn hurry up and do it, for we all agree, I assume, that media bias is one of the biggest reasons (if not the #1 reason) we are where we are.

We wouldn't have invaded Iraq had it not been for the corporate media telling us lies after lies about WMD.
The population would have no doubts about the fact that another big stimulus is necessary if it wasn't for the media fear-mongering about the deficit.

People would know how dangerous Sarah Palin is if we had a responsible media.

Today a kook won in Delaware and the media is hyping her instead of highlighting her craziness.

Something drastic has to be done.

4. Obama supports "media ownership caps" and "increasing minority ownership of broadcasting and print"

2. DrSteveB needs to do something about the media--as in, ignore and/or expose them for the lazy,
exploitative, corrupt slugs that they are.

3. As soon as he changes the constitution and can rule by decree...
he should get on it.

Otherwise...

It is up to Congress and the Senate.

Unless we elect a bunch of New Democrats, all of them liberals or progressives, that won't happen. Nor do I think a new Fairness doctrine would stand in this Supreme Court.

What Media I have seen admit she is a kook. Hell, even the RSCC and Rove thinks she is a kook.

5. I don't like the fairness doctrine either.
Yes, we absolutely need to break up the media conglomerates. It NEEDS to happen by the end of his first term.

However, I don't think it's fair to write that he doesn't share the same goals. He favors using different methods to reach those goals. The Fairness Doctrine will have unintended consequences.
