which can they handle better, bat-shit crazy republicans or liberal democrats. If a blue dog is in the race that will change the outcome. If an independent is in the race that will change things as well (such as the FL senate race with Crist/Meek/Rubio).

I question whether there are really any 'Moderate Republicans' left. Certainly what used to be the moderates (the "Rockefeller Republicans") are as extinct as the Dodo. So today's 'moderates' are by definition just a couple of degrees to the left of Atilla the Hun. You may get them to make an occasional switch but there's got to be something in it for them. So the real question is "What do we offer that will get them to switch?". I wish I had the answer. Obama has lost their support to the degree he ever had it, they're howling about the defecit (which is a genuine problem) and they don't much care for HCR (the same as many Democrats). Maybe the issue of extending the tax cuts for the Middle Class, but who knows?
