Grand Old Party?
Seems to be an awful lot of references to the 'GOP' in these columns today. Not so much 'Republicans'. A concerted effort to rehabilitate the term? I think we should be told.

You do understand that the Tea Party and GOP "factions" are both within the Republican party right? The news is about their infighting.

are no more or less than paid tools of the Republican Party. It has certainly been claimed on here in different posts and it makes sense. However, whatever the case, to try to make a contradistinction between the two 'factions' seems bizarre to me.

you aren't paying attention.

Why the Republican party would pay a tool to oust Castle and open the race wide up for a Democrat to take the seat back is beyond me.

BTW, the definition of "far right" on this board vs anywhere else are two completely different things. The blue dogs are to the far right if you base your opinion on this board.

Trying to apply the terminology from one system to another is always going to cause that.

the US right and its wholly-owned media can't conceal, nowadays, even from their own people?

It wasn't smart for the rich Republican rednecks to alienate their historic base: the old money gentlefolk. They may have suffered from a similar, inordinate love of money, but that's all it was: similar, not as cynical and extreme.

They had standards. Just one of which will give you a picture of the difference: the number of Republican politicians who served in the military, either in Vietnam or Iraq, in comparison with the Democrats. Serving in the armed forces used to be feature of Republican old-money types, as it was of the Tories in the UK. And grotesque as the imbalance is, but while it may not, of course, be directly significant in terms of running the domestic affairs of the country, it is highly indicative of their pathologically esurient character and its corollary: a seemingly total absence of a spirit of sacrifice, of serving higher ideals - just a ferocious determination to further their own narrow, venal self-interest, and that, at the expense of the American people.

Was that too profound for you to figure out?

16. Sorry. You lost me there! I don't see two essentially different sets of Republicans, today; you do.
I just deplore Democrats referring to the Republican party as the GOP.

Aneurin Bevan, the founder of our National Health Service, called our Conservatives, 'vermin'. You would never get a social- democratic, never mind a left-winger in Europe referring to their right-wing party as the GOP, mutatis mutandis. Though those European, right-wing parties would be viewed by you as Communists...

What is so hard to understand?

You don't see the difference between teabaggers and the GOP, cool, no big deal, you're not the first ignorant person in the world and you won't be the last.

Don't get upset when people point out the fact that there is a difference.

You should probably start calling 90% of this site freepers as well because they realize the difference as well.
