8. They screwed up in Delaware, but the Tea Baggers are doing well in many places.

So, yes. We do need to do this to our own "establishment" jerks.

It would be very bad to hand over the populist mantle to the Republican Party.

11. What "populist mantle" do the "teabaggers" have?
Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 01:19 PM by Proud Liberal Dem
Their agenda is almost identical to the Republican Party, which is, of course, to attain/maintain power at all costs, maintain a "privileged status above "others", obstruct any progress that seems in the least bit threatening (to them), and ultimately to serve the interests of the upper 1% class. They're just wackier and less restrained about things than the average "politically astute" establishment Republican like, say, Karl Rove, whom the "teabaggers" are now turning on for his criticism of O'Donnell's victory in Deleware's GOP Primary.

If "teabaggers" REALLY cared about 1/10 of the things that they claim to be concerned about- now that a Democrat is back in the WH and the Democrats are in control of Congress incidentally- then they should have been fighting GWB and his (mis-)administration tooth and nail during most of his (mis-)administration but they didn't. What's worse is that I'm pretty sure that most of them enthusiastically supported Bush/Cheney and cheered along their agenda for all eight years- all the while shouting down the Democrats and other naysayers, which is a large part of why I seriously question their motives, principles, and sincerity in general.

The Democratic Party (most of it anyway) is the only party genuinely interested in doing anything to advance the interests of the average person and the "teabaggers" will NEVER be able to claim that mantle IMHO.

12. They are getting the mantle because they are asking for it. The DLC doesn't want populist Democrats.
And unfortunately the DLC is in charge and ignoring what folks want. Again. The Tea Baggers are just filling the populist vaccum.

Yes, I know that they are funded by billionaires and are usually almost Nazis, but they are asking for and taking the populist mantle.

14. It is one thing to Primary a couple of Blue Dog Democrats, but they are not the establishment
Tea Baggers want to eliminate the entire Republican establishment unless it buckles under to their demands.. Is that a hard one to understand?

7. When your opponent is drowning, toss him an anchor
And never, ever interrupt your adversary when he's making a mistake. The Senate race in Delaware went from a near mortal lock to be a Republican pick-up to a near mortal lock to stay Democratic overnight. O'Donnell is already polling 44-32 behind Coons. Among people who voted for Castle.

9. Wonder if the real republicans will go to the Independents
or maybe side with the Blue Dogs. Could be interesting. I can not conceive of a real republican aligning themselves with some of the kooky crazy nuts that have been elected in primaries to run as republicans. Republicans have a different view of what they want for this country, mostly passing laws for corporations and raking it in themselves. But there is no way these kooks would even think of siding with corporations. They have so much ego they think they IF ELECTED, and what a joke, will run this country by themselves.
