Christine O’Donnell Thinks Psychics Are Evil Pimps
After Christine O’Donnell was named winner of Delaware’s GOP primary, Bill Maher talked about how she used to be one of the “most frequent guests” on his ABC show Politically Incorrect (“she is such a nice person”).

And she was! Here she is from October 2001 talking about how psychics are evil pimps.
“I believe psychics are either kooks or they’re tapping into a real power,” says O’Donnell, who shares a panel with medium and author James Van Praagh. “It’s not a holy power, it’s an evil power.”

Later, this exchange:

O’Donnell: Psychics exploit the human beings natural desire that longs for something higher.
Maher: I would say the exact same thing about religion. (applause)
O’Donnell: The same way a pimp exploits the natural desire to be with the opposite sex…psychics put people in spiritual harm, the same way pimps put people in physical harm.

1. This is kind of sensible by her standards.

Aside from the fact she believes in God, which is a mistake but hardly unique in politics, there's nothing wrong with what she's saying here. It is a typical position for any member of an organized religion.

Almost everyone in politics claims to belive some gibberish or another. (Does Obama believe in Satan? He's not much of a Christian if he doesn't.)

The observation that psychics prey on the religiosity of the irreligious is rather shrewd, really. The belief that the supernatural outside church is both possible and sinister follows naturally from Christianity. (Jesus performed exorcisms, for goodness sakes...)

(To make it super insightful she could have also noted that the Tea Party Cult does the same thing—offering an outlet for some folks free-floating religiosity.)

2. I actually agree with her about psychics.
And all other forms of woo peddling.
