did you know that real, normal americans are a minority compared to illegal aliens? Or that Jesus picked our nation to lead the world, and that with immigration the real white person will disappear? Or that all of our wars are due to liberals, homos, and gays?
That is just a sample from this morning's discussion on immigration.

with laughter. Rethugs are pissed. The one I loved best so far was complaining about the price of bananas if the Mexicans weren't allowed in. Someone should tell him that not one single banana is produced in the US. That slave labour is in Central America.

I was thinking, bananas? That idiot thinks we grow bananas here? Actually, I think Americans would be more willing to pick bananas than other produce. It's heavy but not stoop labor.

2. The old "white man will disappear" junk has been floating around for years |
|
I wish I could find it, but there was a political cartoon about the "Last Real Yankee" with a white man surrounded by Asians, Italians, Germans, etc, each spouting garbled versions of English as they pulled him down--this was a cartoon from the 1840s.

acknowledgement that that term has come to mean something else entirely in the last 40 years or so.

4. These people show just how ready america is to have a black president |
|
I'm sorry but A choice between a black man or a white woman, I just don't think america is at that level yet. Sure we at DU and the smattering of liberals across the country are ok with the ideal that sex or race don't matter. But the rest of america, the ones who voted for shrub twice and Reagan is their hero are nothing but racist, sexist assholes who hate everyone that they think is getting something they feel their skin color entitles them to get first.

pure statistics proves that these "morans" are not a simple-minded, small, unmeasurable minority.
While it is amusing, it also makes one cry for our country.

do you notice that C-Span will do anything to avoid talking about the US attorney scandal and Comey's testimony? They showed the testimony but nothing has been asked about it on Washington Journal.

But from the comments that often crop up here, it sounds like a festival of wingnuttery! Does anyone ever call in with anything sensible to say or is it entirely knuckle-dragging Fox Noise viewers? Is it actually fun to watch these shows?

21. Scoff, but I will tell you this much. |
|
My husband is a naturalized American citizen who has faithfully voted for every Democratic candidate since he became a citizen. He is furious right now. Absolutely furious and talking about not voting Democratic this time. He and his brothers and sisters all came here using the immigration system under the law. They paid the sponsorships and filled out the forms and made the trips to the immigration office. He is beside himself. Last night while we watched as this bill was discussed, he was literally shouting at the television set. I have been married to two different immigrants--one who did not become a citizen and my current husband. I have lived abroad for an extended period of time and followed the rules of the nation where I lived in regard to the necessary criteria for my continued sojourn there.
I will tell you this. I'm not happy with this bill either, and it is not that I begrudge people wanting a better life. I'm sure my bona fides as a Democrat will now be questioned and the flamethrowers are being fired up. However, we do have a legal system which governs labor, commerce, and immigration. The laws have not been enforced, and free trader gluttons have been allowed to run amok. As a result, the American worker and infrastructure is suffering. It seems to me that this bill has been drafted by California, Texas, and Florida senators, the states whose labor polies have allowed this assault on the American worker to balloon.
My allegiance is to this nation. I am a citizen of no other nation. This is the one issue I disagree with the Democratic Party on. I expect the laws of this nation to be upheld and obeyed. It is well past time to rein in the freetraders and start dealing with very real problems of facing the citizenry in the labor market now.

if only most people on this world felt like that.
We used to pretend to be like that. If you ignore Irish, Blacks, Chinese, Japanese, Poles, Turks, etc. etc. etc. now our nationalistic myopia and racism seems much more obvious and on the surface.
