DeMint: ‘Republicans are not prepared to take over the Senate.’”
Rebel Jim DeMint sparks GOP Senate civil war
By MANU RAJU | 9/15/10 9:52 PM EDT Updated: 9/16/10 8:33 AM EDT

South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint accidentally walked into a room full of lobbyists Wednesday morning and declared that “Republicans are not prepared to take over the Senate,” according to people in the room.

Some Republicans agree — and say he may be part of the reason why.

Senate Republicans are now even more embroiled in an intraparty civil war in which DeMint has been the lead rebel, and the victory by conservative Christine O’Donnell over establishment favorite Rep. Mike Castle in Delaware only deepened GOP divisions that could haunt Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell well into next year.

Behind closed doors Wednesday, Republican senators tried to assess the damage. Several senators at the lunch, including Scott Brown of Massachusetts, raised concerns that the party has sent a message that it had no room for moderates, even from left-leaning states, according to people familiar with the exchanges. And others expressed frustration that the GOP had essentially given away a pivotal seat that Castle could have won.

1. This is a juicy account -- with DeMint evidently
walking out of this meeting in a bit of a huff.

The article is unclear whether there were more angry idiots at that meeting or greedy lobbyist pigs. Readers are left to guess.

Recommended.

3. Hi, malaise. Yep. This is getting real good real fast.
What fun it must be to see Jim DeMint blowing his stack because someone as kooky and dangerous as he is just popped the Puke-takeover balloon for the Senate.

I'll have lots of butter on my popcorn!

4. Any Gains Will Destroy The GOOP
Finally the rifts that have driven this party off the political abyss are open for all to see. They no longer hide the racism, the xenophobia, the disdain for anyone who isn't a millionaire...it's all out there in its naked "beauty". It's red meat galore for the unhinged 20% or less who dominate the primaries that helped create an artificial storyline the corporate media (led by faux) have been running with all summer. It papers over the fundamental rifts in this corrupt party in their lust for power. The short term gains could be a long-term poison.

KO pointed out the population numbers last night that show the GOOP represents a shrinking and aging group that was barely able to win elections on a national basis and now have relegated themselves to mostly a regional party. Few urban areas are represented by GOOPers and the suburbs and "ex-burbs" are also turning bluer and bluer.

There's one more aspect here...the further right this party goes, the further they alienate themselves from more and more voters that they now risk losing for generations. Their attacks on Hispanics will turn what was a 40% GOOP vote to 15% or less...and the demonization that ALL Hispanics now feel will last long beyond the short-term political benefits. Their on-going purity games will chase remaining moderates out and is now challenging the party elite. If they don't win big in November, the knives will once again come out...and if they do, it will just delay the inevitable...and that could easily happen in 2012.

5. I love your scenario; it has the benefit of
making sense, too. I just hope Americans are up to 'getting' what is going on.
