Senator Dodd Downplays Warren Role At Consumer Agency. Who will be nominated to run the agency?
Dodd Downplays Warren Role At CFPB
By Ryan Grim
September 16, 2010

"What I gather is Elizabeth will be some sort of adviser in all this," Dodd, (Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) the Senate Banking Committee chairman, told reporters in the Capitol. "They need to send us a director, though, a nominee. The issue's no different today than it was yesterday. We need a nominee that can be confirmed by the Senate to run the place."

"I don't know what their intentions are. I talked to them the other day about this. I read the news stories this morning," Dodd said of the White House decision to name her an adviser to both Obama and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner. Under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform law, the secretary can designate a director to set up and run the agency until a permanent director is in place. That option was first reported by HuffPost in July.

The position comes with the full power of a director, but Dodd sought to reduce the role's authority. "There's always been talk about having Elizabeth involved in this in some way and I thought they might even send her up to be the nominee. They didn't do that, so the issue still remains: Who are we going to consider?" Dodd said. "I appreciate what the White House did yesterday, but the question still remains: Who's going to run this place?"

Dodd said that the White House has not discussed with him any candidates they may be considering as permanent directors, but he said that his committee was ready to hold hearings quickly. "My hope is that they send up a nominee sometime in the next few weeks," said Dodd. "Maybe in the lame duck we'll have hearings and we'll consider whose going to actually run the place, because you need a director and you need someone who's confirmable. Anything short of that, as I said yesterday, puts this bureau in some jeopardy in my view. Without it being established and up and going, it's vulnerable," he said.

1. Or may be we can wait until Dodd is out of the way. Clearly, he has been against Warren for a while.
Probably not to displease his future masters.

3. Dodd must be furious that he's now irrelevant. He will keep trying to protect his banker buddies but
let's hope the Pres just keeps ignoring him!!!

4. So who do you think President Obama will nominate to direct the agency?

5. I suspect he'll just take his time. Since Warren is not nominated she can speak out on the issues
all she likes. She can be on TV every day if she wants to. He can decide in 6 months, two years, whatever, to nominate her or choose someone else. He met with Warren who happens to be a personal friend of his so I can only assume she is on board with this approach. It's only the "bankers best friend" Dodd who has concerns. The rest of us are thrilled!!!

6. Perhaps a recess appointment of Warren once the next session
recesses for the first time. That would make considerable sense, I think, especially if there is doubt of her confirmation. In the meantime, she can organize the agency and be all ready to step in. I like it.

7. Not only that. I suspect that she will be very popular once she gets going. So, let her do her thing
and then nominate her when it's been made clear who's side she is on and let the Pugs try to vilify her. Very smart move on Obama's part.

9. Wow! That was some amazing misinterpretation of Dodd's comments
looks pretty clear that Dodd is pissed off that they bypassed the Senate approval process and deprived him of the role of king maker.

10. Why is it so important to insist
that a good consumer advocate and staunch liberal would be so naive that she would leave a cushy position at Harvard to be a shill for the Obama administration, and a puppet of Geithner no less, with no power to do her job?

Warren is a competent and staunch liberal voice and I'm sure she will not be anybody's stooge.

Apparently some people aren't happy unless they are miserable.

"The position comes with the full power of a director,"

So now you're accepting the fact that she IS the director? That's progress!!

14. And Geithner hasn't designated anyone to do that yet. Isn't that correct? So what's your point?

And, while he may do that, Geithner isn't required to.

17. Umm, Yes, He Did, Her Name Is Elizabeth Warren, And She's RUNNING The Agency, DUH

"The appointment would place Warren - adored by liberals and consumer advocates, viewed with suspicion by many bankers and congressional Republicans - in charge of the new regulator that she proposed three years ago to protect Americans against lending abuses. "

This is the funniest shit I have ever seen in my life. You are seriously denying that they appointed her to run this agency so you don't have to give Obama any props for doing so. It's the funniest thing I've ever seen! Now you're taking Dodd's "cover my ass" spin on this??? Now Dodd, who was opposing Warren, is your best buddy on the subject??

Dodd can't do jackshit now and Dodd is pissed - LOL!

Because Dodd was doing all he could to make sure Elizabeth Warren wouldn't become director of the new consumer protection agency.

Dodd wanted to please his corporate banking masters by nixing the excellent Warren, the same banking gangster thieves who are going to finance Dodd's "retirement".

Dodd has proven what a corporate whoring greedy selfish slime of a creature he really is.....

However, now there's no need to ever appoint a "director" (unless it's Elizabeth Warren).

Elizabeth Warren can and will do the job in whatever the title, name or position she is given....Now Dodd, the slimy asshole that he is demanding a director of the agency to be named to oversee Warren.

And it looks like Obama is in no hurry to nominate anyone, besides the best person for the job, Elizabeth Warren!

Unless, Obama knows for certain that Warren will absolutely be the assure confirmed nominee director - If not, than no hurry & no need for a director! Warren can do the job from her appointed position!

Cheers to Obama! - And a fuck-you, get the fuck out here already to Dodd!

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have also strategically given more contributions to lawmakers currently sitting on committees that primarily regulate their industry. Fifteen of the 25 lawmakers who have received the most from the two companies combined since the 1990 election sit on either the House Financial Services Committee; the Senate Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs Committee; or the Senate Finance Committee. The others have seats on the powerful Appropriations or Ways & Means committees, are members of the congressional leadership or have run for president. Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), chairman of the Senate banking committee, has received the most from Fannie and Freddie's PACs and employees ($133,900 since 1989). Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.) has received $65,500. Kanjorski chairs the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance and Government-Sponsored Enterprises, and Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are government-sponsored enterprises, or GSEs.

20. Yet another OP that believes that Elizabeth Warren is an idiot....

That she would quit her job at Harvard to accept this temporary position that has no power.

You don't think very highly of her intelligence, do you Better-Believe-It?
