Rachel on Elizabeth Warren's post (explains the "advisor" role) --
It begins w/ Biden responding to a question, then Rachel, as always, lays the foundation. She gets into the actual Warren discussion a little past the 5:00 mark. The entire piece is worth watching, IMO.

I know some of us were concerned about this just being a token appointment and that she really won't have any power. That's not the impression I get from this, but here it is:

1. For once, this WH seems to be playing the right political card!
I'm POSITIVE the Pubs would fillabuster Warren and drag out a confirmation until January when they at least THINK they will have more power to completely demolish her nomination. I'm so glad SOMEBODY inside the WH pulled THIS card out of their deck to frustrate the Pubs for a change.

3. The Most Brilliant Part Is This: She Stays As Interim Head UNTIL Senate Confirms A Permanent Head
So if they fillibuster, she remains head. If the Pres nominates her for the permanent position, if Repubs fillibuster, she STILL remains in charge! It's a catch 22 for Repubs!! Brilliant!

9. can't watch video....
are you saying the Advisor role is also the Interim Head of the agency role? Or at least until someone is confirmed? What happens to the advisor role then?

Details have been sketchy on what the Advisor role would entail... who gave Rachel the scoop?

14. Yes, That's How You Get The Interim Director
"By appointing Warren to a post within the administration - much as the White House did with "car czar" Steven Rattner and "compensation czar" Kenneth Feinberg - Obama would free her to act as the bureau's director beginning immediately while avoiding a confirmation battle. The move also will thrill the consumer groups, labor unions, academics and liberal lawmakers that have lobbied relentlessly for her to lead the new regulator."

16. excellent!
I just read Warren's post on the WH blog, and it seems this is what she wanted. Though, i admit, i'm surprised that none of the reports (even in her blog post) use the phrase Interim Director/Chief/Head of the CFPB. It is a term/phrase that has been bandied about for at least a month now, yet after she gets picked that phrase/title seems to have disappeared from Media reports. Weird.

This is the sentence i liked best:

"The President and I are committed to the same vision on CFPB, and I am confident that I will have the tools I need to get the job done."

I hope that after the CFPB is up and running, she will continue to be an important adviser to Pres. Obama...

:)

15. Brilliant. The Senate either has to allow a vote on Warren or leave her as interim head.
Obama put them over a barrel.

5. I think we've been finding out after the fact (and after we've been pulling our
hair out) that they have indeed been taking the right approach, we just didn't see it or understand all the machinations occurring. Sometimes. :7

2. The only ones concerned
are the ones who need something to bitch about...

Obama didn't (fill in the blank)

I was going to post in the other thread but didn't want to kick it- Funny how some people are ranting and raving, and they don't even know how recess appointments work

4. The FUDmeisters are in a box: Either Maddow and Warren are idiots, or they are wrong about this

They can't reconcile their opinion that this is a powerless position with their (previous) feeling that Warren is intelligent and that Rachel tells the truth.

Both thing can't be true.
