What 5 publicly known people would you choose if they were the only humans left? |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-16-10 03:32 PM by AnArmyVeteran
Who would you choose if you could have your pick of five people to share the world with you after a worldwide catastrophe occurred and destroyed all human life on Earth, except for you and five other people? They can be people who are living or dead. You can't pick anyone in your immediate lives, like loved ones, because that would be too easy.
Try to think of people you would need to survive the hardships ahead. Who would be most valuable to the continued existence of all survivors? Who would have the necessary emotional, mental and practical skills needed to form a cohesive group?
I know, the first thing a lot of people, both men and women, might pick are members of the opposite sex for purely sexual reasons, but try to repress your libido (like Pristine Christine always does : ) and select people who would form a crucial blend of personalities and talents to carry on in a world without any other human beings.
The people you can choose can be from all walks of life, be of any age and be from any other time in human history. Think about it carefully...
It would be great if you could list 5 names and a brief reason for choosing each one.

If it is me and 5 others.... my wife, my 2 daughters, my son ... and then we add a woman who knows how to hunt and farm (kind of like Girl versus Wild).
When you are down to 6 people. Humanity is screwed. Its game over.
So, I won't trade my wife or my kids for anything.
If I pick a guy, ala "man versus wild", he probably kills me in my sleep. Takes my wife and my daughters, kills my son. Can't have that.
But if I go with "woman versus wild" ... she has skills, a definite plus ... and, my 17 year old son has a mate. My wife and daughters are no threat to her.
My daughters are young, so it is possible that the off spring from my son and the wild woman, if boys, could procreate with my daughters who by then would be in their late 20s early 30s. I don't even want them to DATE until that age, so I'm ok with that.
But my sense is that, when you get down to 6, they don't make it anyway. Might as well have your family.

Having said that, the idea of ensuring that my daughters don't start to date, because they are amoung the last 6 people alive ... well, it creates a scenario I have to think about.

13. I have no idea of names of these people, but the skills |
|
1) Somebody who can hunt for food, who we can presume is a good shot and skilled at caomouflage and hence wold be good at defending from animal attacks too. Somewhat scarily the only name that crops up is Ted Nugent 2) Somebody who knows about soils, agronomy and growing food. Some primitive farmer pre-industrial revolution. 3) Somebody who can build and tinker for shelter and artifacts - a great "Shade Tree mechanic"/handyman/builder. These folks are generally unsung heroes with no public recognition 4) Somebody who can prepare food and we need some female balance here - pick your favorite food TV female chef 5) A philosophical deep thinker who can help us maintain and build society from scratch. Another woman would be good balance too. Since we're going back to early civilization Hypatia could be a good choice.
What the hell use I would be to that lot I have no clue. Comic relief and grunt labor I guess.

1. Lewis or Clark - because of their experience with navigating the wilderness and ability to set up living conditions.
2. Buddha - to help keep the group centered, focused on what is important, and just impart his wisdom.
3. Nikola Tesla - who knows what great inventions he could come up with to help us on our journey?
4. Sacagawea - to help us live off the land and utilize what was available to use medicinally, and she'd be a great woman to be the new Mother of civilization.
5. George Clooney - Sacaagawea's mate, compassionate human being, intelligent, funny, breathtaking to look at.
Interesting question. Wonder who I'll come up with after I give it some more thought.
Who would YOU choose?

Oh well, it started out to be a serious question about the kind of people you would surround yourselves with.
And to those with loved ones, try to pretend they are okay and participate in this experience anyway. There's a reason why I choose six total survivors but I don't want to reveal too much lest it taints your judgement.
And picking hot chicks is a cop out!!! That's too easy!

But I'd like them to have skills and intelligence or it would be hard to live with five deadbeats who couldn't carry on a conversation. Communication would be one of the most important things to have when facing such an enormous challenge.
One thing I am sure of is I would never select a Christine ODonnell. I like very intelligent women who are also creative mentally and physically. Christine sounds like she's empty from the neck up and she doesn't believe in playing with anything from the waist down.
She can't live in my cave!

Repopulating the world would be the first priority. A doctor would be needed to keep everyone healthy and teach medicine to some of the children. An architect/builder would help maintain places to live and teach construction. A farmer would ensure food for the foreseeable future. A scientist would ensure the continuation of knowledge and progress. . And life would not be worth living without music and the continuation of musical culture.
