Immigration "reform" is bullshit - this nation was founded by 'illegal' immigrants!
I'm fairly sure that the original settlers coming to the New World didn't get permission from the Native Americans before coming over. Even after this country was founded, immigration into this country was a fairly open process - you simply came over. I am so fucking sick and tired of hearing people say "my ancestors came over legally, why can't they." It wasn't until the last century that we started demanding "papers". This latest attempt to "reform" immigration by requiring millions of people to return to their country and pay $5000 to enter "legally" is bullshit. How many of these people can afford that kind of money? Why do we insist on treating people who come over here and work their asses off like shit?

The sooner we give up this outdated nationalistic gung-ho bullshit, and start treating everyone as one human family, the better off we'll all be!

1. Humans are made for walking and they've migrated everywhere
over a million years. I don't really think laws or double fences will prevent the movement of people to places they see as offering a better life. Nor do I see laws or fences providing peace of mind to the xenophobes.

3. ugh
My dad is visiting. Oh boy, you want to talk about some crazyhead fucked up Rush Limbaugh views... "Lookit all them wetbacks coming over here and this and that!" His point of view is immune to logic and I think the counter-argument is pretty devastating.

"Hey, I think illegals coming over here is wrong. But you have to ask youself, if someone is employed illegally, who's employing them illegally? They wouldn't be streaming across the border if there were no jobs. Your 'wetbacks' are just as exploited as the Americans they're taking the jobs away from, Americans who can't get paid a living wage for doing backbreaking work."

I think that's a powerful argument. I think that should elicit some sort of complaint about scumfuck capitalists. Think it makes any headway? Nope! It's back to complaining about wetbacks. Pig-ignorant, Rush Limbaugh worldview. I have no clue how a man who had to go through Vietnam, got fucked by Enron-style management in the phone company, who is dealing with the idiocy of the VA, I have no idea how he can still continue to hold the views and opinions he does. I mean, this Republican conservative POV amounts to superstition! Any critical analysis based on fact will disprove it all. But logic bounces off like water off a duck's back. "Cocksucker Ted Kennedy backing that bill, fucking wetback lover." Yeah, and who also supports the bill? That notorious liberal and wetback lover George W. Bush. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Need any more proof here? Get immigrants to come in and work the jobs, then get the conservative Americans upset about them taking our jobs so you can get reelected promising to be tough on immigration. Can we get an inkling of understanding? Is anything sinking in? FUCKING LIBERALS! It's like trying to talk evolution with a religious nut.

Classic example, the complaints about Interceptor vs. Dragonscale body armor. He's grumbling about "Damn assholes, why do they have to go and make all these complaints and keep people from doing their jobs?" And it's like "What part of protecting the troops do you not understand?" He says "War is war, soldiers go out and get killed. What, you're going to wrap up like the Michellin man and not be able to move?" Who said anything about that? We're not talking about a hypothetical solution that has yet to be designed, we're talking about an effective product already on the market that the military doesn't want to buy for whatever reason. I brought up Israel's Trophy anti-missile system for IFV's. I told him about how the Pentagon isn't buying it because Raythenon already has a contract to develop such a system from scratch. He is constantly struggling to find a way to blame this on the liberal media, as if every bad piece of news coming out about this war and our military has an AGENDA. FACTS DO NOT HAVE AN AGENDA! "Gee, let's try tactic A. Did this work? No? FUCKING REALITY HAS A LIBERAL BIAS!"

This is truly a case of cognitive dissonance.

4. You must not have gotten the memo that Americans count for
more than Mexicans (or Chinese or Indians or any other nationality for that matter.) You do realize that some that someone drew a line on the map a long time ago after our little war with Mexico. The people that live south of that line count for less than the those who live north of the line. (Don't even get me started on those pesky folks who live north of our border with Canada. Though, I must admit, that they seem to be perceived as much less of a threat to some than those Mexicans are. There must be some difference that I am not aware of.)

And some thought that patriotism at DU was dead. ;)

5. And they murdered the Native Americans too.
Thus began the American tradition of stomping on any group we dislike, or who has what we want. It continues today not only on our southern border but also in Iraq.
