Democrats Lead Republicans In Iowa Absentee Ballot Requests (3 TIMES MORE!!)
"DES MOINES -- A week ahead of the Sept. 23 start of early voting, nearly three times as many absentee ballots have been requested by Democrats as Republicans, Secretary of State Michael Mauro said.

As of Sept. 16, county auditors have received 53,643 absentee ballot requests from 33,017 Democrats, 11,785 Republicans, 8,811 no party and 30 others."

1. I think they're afraid of getting yelled at on election day.
I don't blame them. It sucks that I can't do the same here without an excuse.

2. We have early voting in Iowa - part of the Johnson County Democrats'
strategy is that we try to get the vote out as early as possible.

7. Midterms - early voting starts September 23 in Iowa. People can go vote at their county auditor's
office or send in a request form to get a vote-by-mail ballot (absentee ballot) which will be sent out on September 23 until almost election day.

Dems always encourage their voters to vote early because it helps the party. They know who has already voted. They can get that information from the auditor's office. Then they can focus their resources on who hasn't voted yet.

Dems always kick ass at the absentee voting in Iowa. No excuse is necessary. Anybody can vote early.

6. Yes, there is an enthusiasm gap...
Republicans are more enthusiastic about voting in person.

8. But, but, but the Enthusiasm Gap! How can this be! Another Narrative Breach?
Any idea how these numbers compare with past elections? Also, I thought Republicans were more likely to vote absentee. Has that changed, or does it vary by state?

9. Black Hawk County here...
When I make my calls, I do the informal survey on the Iowa house and senate race first. If they say they are going to vote for the Dems, then I offer to send out the absentee ballot request. If they name the Rebuplicans, I thank them for their time and go to the next call. Let the other party do the work to lock up their own votes! Since I call during the afternoon, I work from a list of folks over age 65 and they all say they plan to vote. Just goes to show we really need to emphasize what the Republicans want to do to Social Security and Medicare!

10. People across the nation will begin casting votes in about a week and Democrats
have not even begun to campaign..What the Hell is wrong with them? Are they still trying to maintain "Dry Powder"? Democrats should be on a full court press right now and dominate the air waves for the next six weeks...Some people will cast a vote without once hearing about the Democratic candidate, from the Democrats point of view that is...

11. They are campaigning here in Iowa. I'll agree with you in the macro sense,
if you're talking about making our voices louder, regarding the tax cuts and other significant policy issues on a national level!
