It's Not Just The Logo! There's much more!
Much more happened than a logo redesign on the DNC website. The reality is that very few people really care about a logo, anyhow. The site offers excellent tools to help Democratic activists contact local candidates to make donation and volunteer in campaign efforts. The information you need is right there.

Further, the website has been redesigned to a cleaner, more efficient look, with excellent navigational tools. It's not just a logo. However, I like the logo. I've adopted it as my avatar. Anyone can do the same and show their support for the Democratic Party and its candidates in 2010. The logo isn't important. The election is important. I urge everyone to use the site to help you help your local Democratic Candidates.

Does that mean you won't be taking advantage of the site tools? A logo is preventing you from helping GOTV?

11. Lots of assumptions there, blogslut!
Big, leaping assumptions from out of the clear blue.

Nevermind that I am this guy who weighs in these days only to encourage everyone to do GOTV despite how anyone may feel about the last 2 years. Staying home is certain death, I tell people.

Now.... why would we want to look like a target?!?!

18. Doing it locally/physically is wonderful
As well, this new DNC site allows people to organize local rallies, inform people of goings on in their area and spread the GOTV message via social networks. This web model was very effective for the Obama/Biden 2008 campaign and I'm thrilled to see the DNC incorporating it.

It's all good. :)

The logo is underwhelming, I agree.

However, it breaks my heart to see Democrats concentrate their energies on a graphic when they could using their time taking advantage of this new site.

35. Sweet!
I live in one of of the two most republican congressional districts in the United States. I don't wear my Obama/Biden shirt in public because of the risk to my personal safety - that's not an exaggeration. I tried it once. All I did was walk a few blocks and I was bombarded with sneers, curses from passing cars and more public disdain that I care to chance, ever again. This is my life as a Democrat.

The Internet and the organizing tools, such as those from BarackObama dot com and this new DNC site, permit me to participate in the effort to Get Out the Vote without risking life and limb. As well, I don't drive. I walk everywhere. I can't attend local Democratic party gatherings unless I can get there by foot.

It was because of the organizing efforts made through the barackobama dot com site that there were actual, physical meetings in my town. It was because of those web tools that we packed our local primary location to the point that it overflowed into the street. I was the precinct secretary at that primary and I will never forget the experience.

I plan to spread the word via social networking and do that awesome calling from home thing that will come with this new DNC site. I'm jazzed. :)

I recommend this attitude to everyone at DU.

I forget how easy it is to be a Dem in Minnesota (with the glaring exception of M. Bachman's bizarre district).

After Novenber we resume right where we left off.

And Progressives like me will be calling the shots, we'll see to that.

53. Yup.
Going to the website and working through it is a different matter. It is very good and helpful. However, the 'lame' logo and the hyped media 'event' isn't going to draw many of the kids to it. Have you ever watched your kids watch TV or surf the internet? It's about visual appeal. If it looks cool then they want it.

I don't see the new logo jumping out and grabbing the kids.

12. Do you think someone's looking to shoot Democrats?
Not so. I've had campaign stickers on my car for a long, long time. I have campaign signs in my yard.

Using this logo simply and clearly identifies me as a Democrat. I like that. I am a Democrat, and I don't mind people knowing that. Your mileage may vary. But, I'm a Democrat and I'm not afraid to show it. Nobody should be, in my opinion.

20. Here in Minnesota....
... the party is the Demoratic-Farmer-Labor Party. About 10 years ago, party leaders insisted that it was suddenly vital to drop the Farmer-Labor part (you know, cause those people have disppeared and they were, like, dirty all the time).

We fought back. We won. We felt no need for a corporatist make-over.

I feel the same way about the donkey.

It fights. It stands it's ground. I love the donkey!

10. i don't know...
when i search for local candidates i get my governor and my congressman. That's fine, but i would love a LOCAL search that lists State House/Senate candidates too... why not DAs and Treasurers too?

The site definitely looks cleaner and i guess it's more effective than the last one, but these aren't really changes i care about. I'm more excited about the Warren nod than anything else right now. Hoping we D's stand together against the Millionaire Tax cut...

21. The logo IS important. It is a visible sign of the 'New Democrats'
divorcing the party from its historic roots - the abandonment of labor, civil rights, and inclusiveness in favor of a pro-business, corporatist agenda.

Maybe Democrats need to let the New Democrats keep the name, while keeping for ourselves our history, our principles and our logo SOMEWHERE ELSE.

If this isn't "the Democratic party left me" I don't know what is.

23. And it really is as simple as a logo.
I love donkeys. They are stubborn, they will even fight if they have to--and yet they also can be as loyal and lovable as a pet dog. That's how I remember the Democrats--my parents and grandparents were activists and candidates back in the day.

Besides--I don't think there would be near the controversy if Kaine hadn't breathlessly LEAKED a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT.

the dust-up belongs to Kaine.

See my post above about what happened in Minnesota.

Just as we are in desperate need of uniting, the New Dems give us a corporatist logo.

Cuz' the party is all about people in suits, you know. Not icky truck drivers like that Fred Stembottom.

Once again, the party leadership steps in to divide us. Watch DU blow up over this.

47. Yeah, that is kind of strange, isn't it.
A logo is just a logo. Most people don't give a rat's ass what the logo looks like. They're more interested in what the party is about.

Some folks, though, seem to look for reasons to detract from the real issues. It's very sad. I can't imagine a Democrat who would do that. The party is the party, whatever the logo looks like.
