Enough With The Snowe And Collins!
Maine Dems don't. want. them.

Quit spitting in our faces by suggesting that we ought to encourage them to switch parties. It is an insult to every good Democratic candidate for state office that they have worked to defeat. In every election, these two hypocrites help fund and campaign for, the most extremist elements in the GOP.

Both women are enthusiastically supporting Paul LePage, the tea bagger maniac who their party has nominated for governor.

I don't want any LePage supporters becoming moles within our party, let alone, LePage's two more prominent supporters.

I am a Democratic County Chair. If either of these two were to be nominated as a Democratic canddate, I would resign my position and work against her.

Please, stop pushing the idea that either Snowe or Collins would be a welcome addition to the Democratic Party. Let Maine Dems be Maine Dems.

1. Snowe & Collins have voted with the dems MANY times in the past 1+ years
I applaud them both.
Without them we wouldn't have gotten as much done as we have.
The democratic tent is a big one and in my opinion they are welcome to join us if they wish.

2. Like the Small Business Bill?
Oh, wait, they both voted no.

What Snowe and Collins do, over and over again, is dangle their votes in front of the Democrats, in order to get all legislation moved to the right. Once it has, sometimes they accept the offering, but often they don't.

But that is not the point I was making. My point is that they have ruthlessly attacked Maine Dems for years, working hard to elect right wing Republicans, and many DUers think that those same Maine Dems ought to just shake it off and open our arms to them.

4. We didn't need them on that one, we had the 'two' Georges...
LeMeix and Voinovich.
But if we didn't have the two Georges, then the gals would have helped us out.
We can't expect Snowe & Collins to vote 'yes' every time since they are still trying to look like republicans ;)

5. Again, the way they vote now and then is not the issue
The point is that people in other states ought not be telling Maine Dems that they ought to ignore the many shivs "the gals" have stuck into us for decades and welcome them into our caucus, where they can work to move our party to the right.

8. I would welcome them, but the truth is they toe their party line 80% of the time.

3. Collins was here in Belfast a week or so back
She gave a ringing endorsement to Paul LePage, who is calling for oil drilling in the Gulf of Maine, mandating that all disability recipients perform community service, and (yes, it's true) importing more Asian kids into Maine schools to raise test scores.

She also spoke glowingly of the tea bag candidates that her party is running for the 2nd District seat, and for the state senate and house.

So, if she switches, we are expected to welcome her into our party and pretend that sort of thing hasn't been going on for years.

Not gonna happen. If Texas Dems want Snowe and Collins, we will happily help raise bus fare to send them your way.

...Maine Dems do want them, enough to cross over and vote for them in general elections. You don't win elections 60-40 or better without crossovers.

I'm a town and county committee member and I know a number of town and county committee members who have told me they've voted for both of them, Snowe far more than Collins, granted.

Fortunately I think that the odds are great that neither jumps. Independent, maybe. Unenrolleds outnumber both parties, after all. That's their natural constituency.

Collins -- who's numb as a hake -- especially won't jump. She is having her head stuffed by staffers with dreams of a 2012 or 2016 VP slot. The thinking seems to be 'Let all this far-right nonsense burn itself out. You are The Future of the Party: non-Southern, non-holy roller, a woman... the opposite of what is killing us. Wait this out -- they'll need you later.' That won't happen unless she stays put in the GOP.

7. Every freakin' time they appear on the ballot,
I vote against them. Just like the undead, they keep coming back. The straw that broke my back was back in June when Ollie came out for Unemployment Extension AFTER Congress adjourned. Thanks a lot. That meant thousands of people had to wait even longer before seeing benefits.

9. If Allen couldn't win in 2008, I am afraid Maine is stuck with them.
Perhaps Maine should re-merge with Massachusetts.

Oh wait...

12. Allen ran a terrible campaign
In part, because his wife's illness was a distraction.

But who cares about Tom Allen,DUers love them some Susie Collins.

13. You go Dude
Beat them and bring in the real Dems. Just because these two aren't complete whack jobs and got votes over 60 doesn't mean they aren't Republicans.
